I dont understand. Are there any Muslims who might care to offer their input?

any excuse to set something on fire.

I'm not even Islamic and this pisses me off.
Not because of the comic, but because no one's an idiot. They knew this uproar would happen. Anyone would.

to depict mohammed or allah is forbidden in islam. as to the over-reaction to the issue, no one has ever bothered to tell these nutcases that the entire world is not muslim, and therefore cannot be expected to comply with the edict.

The Vatican says the right to freedom of expression does not imply the right to offend religious beliefs.
|
There's no need to imply, freedom of expression inherently provides the right to offend.

If the secocnd web site is supposed to be God or Mohammed, how do Muslims know this? They do not publish or not allowed to publish pictures of God or Mohammed. Therefore how can these pictures then cause offence of being published.
Just recently we have had banal programs on tv about what a 'peaceful' religion Islam is. So the Oxford English dictionary is incorrect. Peaceful, means firing automatic weapons in the air, burning flags, embassies etc. Now we know what 'peaceful really means!!
People wonder why I am athiest........

OK so the weekend saw a demonstration in London, UK by Muslims. Placards inciting death to all non muslims, behead all etc. Many of these were women dressed in the muslim head dress so identification is nearly impossible. One was dressed up as a suicide bomber, alright so he came on TV yesterday and apologised for the hurt caused to the victims families of the bombing in London on July 7. Then we had another demonstrator saying 'We are allowed free speech' Does this suggest that the rest of the non Muslim world is not allowed any free speech?
Transpired this morning that the above mentioned demonstrator dressed as a suicide bomber was released from prison for drug smuggling 3 years early and was on licence after parole. If he was white christian no doubt he would have been very swiftly removed back to prison for violation of his parole order, but this man is still allowed to remain at large in the community!!
I sometimes ponder about policies in the US, as they are fed to us in the UK. But I do not think for a minute that your agencies of law enforcement would allow this man to be still at large.
Maybe someone could inform us on this?

unless attending a peaceful demonstration was against his parole, which is highly unlikely, of course he could tromp the streets if he wants to. dressing as a suicide bomber isnt against the law here, provided youre not actually one....

Just heard on the news thathe was arrested and questioned for 'Offensive Behaviour', breach of parole, and has now been returned to prison. The system works, albeit slowly.......

Much ado about nothing is right.
Persons that want to kill lots of people don't need an off-color cartoon to motivate them to that end.

Obviously some parts of the muslim world have alot of anger towards the west and will use anything to stir the pot. Reading some of the articles about the riots in Lebanon I kept seeing quotes from Muslim and Christian leaders saying that radicals where using the cartoons to stir the crowds up for there own political ends.
The cartoon depicting Mohammed with a bomb on his head is the most ironic of all, to me. Advocating blowing things up and killing people to defend your religion to protest that.....
