No active sound mixers

Hi, my computer crashed recently and I re download windows XP to my computer. All my files were there but my sound doesn't work. When I click on volume control it says that there's no active sound mixers and that I should download them but I don't know how or were I go to install them. And now none of my sounds are working. Do you know what's wrong??

What soundcard do you got?
If it is integrated? Then go to the motherboard manufacturers home.
If you dont know what motherboard you have? Download "Everest Home".
