control panel won't open

Hi all
My control panel won't open...when I click the screen just refreshes...is there a procedure for re-installing? I recently upgraded to xp

Looks like some sort of corruption. You could try a repair install of Windows XP.

Control.exe is what launches the Control Panel - you can run it from the Run Command in the Start Menu.
Are you able to launch the Task manager (taskmgr)?? if not - then you may be looking at a trojan or virus that prevents these system control applets from running...
There are many virus' and trojans out there that do this so that you can't end the processes ...
If you can run the taskmgr - then it may be as simple as decompressing control.ex_ from the XP installation CD or i386.

The trick there - is finding out which .cab file it's in.. i'll see if i can find that out.
