Irritating problem with Gigabyte mobo
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

My sister has a GA-8S661FXM-775 with P4 3.2 GHZ, the agp card with which the pc came with is the Geforce 4 MX4000 64mb,
I wanted to setup xp on the pc, as it is a new pc, i kept on getting the same error at devices installation during the setup processL IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and stop 0000 etc.
I disabled a few hardware components and tried again, it happened again, so I decided to remove the agp card, since it's the only card in the mobo(there are no modems or anything), setup went through and I was running from the onboard vga now.
Okay everything kept going well, then I tried to install the agp while xp was firmly situated on my harddrive, I even installed a few apps. When xp starts up it says new hardware found, shows GF4 mx 4000 and then reboots(with no errors)
I took the card to a friends place and tested it there, it works fine, so wtf am I doing wrong?
This mobo does not have an option to disable onboard vga, it automatically detects which display to use, if there's an agp card, it uses agp, otherwise onboard.
I have set the bios settings to boot from agp and not pci, changed the pci latency from 32 to 64 to 128 and that didn't work, even upgraded to the latest bios version, what's going on here?

Please help

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL Is a conflict, between the video card and another card. Normally you try to move the Soundcard for ex. to another slot.
But in your case, I guess that the integrated card and your AGP conflicts. As you already noticed.
One thing you could try, is to see if you have a
BIOS menue, called "AGP / PCI Priority", and set this to AGP.

I haven't got a BIOS menu called AGP/PCI Priority, the only thing i've got is boot priority and I've set that to AGP already, I've tried assigning manual irq's and nothing works

Hey goranpaa, I got it fixed!!! I installed the graphics card under safe mode, I think there's something wrong with the microsoft drivers, I used the drivers that came with the mx 4000, and I'm not going to change them!

I know I said I wouldn't goranpaa, but I just had to install the ExtremeG drivers on that poor little MX 4000, gnITE!!!

Lol! Whatever works for you man.
Good job solving it!

Coming back to this thread cause all options have depleted. So I got this pc fixed in the mean time. My sister's boyfriend phones me and says he was playing a game and the screen went blank? I'm pretty sure the pc's not fried and the monitor is still working, what could the problem be? I'm going to remove the AGP card and test it with onboard only. Any other idea's? Could it be because I took a SS Ram and swopped it with DS? It worked fine for about a month.

I would place my bet on the videocard. And I think, that if there where any problems using a SS RAM. You would have noticed it pretty fast.

sounds like the video card or agp port poofed.

I swopped the SS with DS, so it's currently got a DS ram module. The problem is this mobo detects which display adapter to use. Say the monitor is connected to AGP, it uses AGP, if it's connected to onboard, it uses onboard. I had the boyfriend test the connection on AGP and onboard, over the phone he said it didn't work, still no display. The monitor is a Samsung Syncmaster 793s, he said the monitor led was green, so let's say the AGP card went, it should work on onboard, and if the monitor went bye bye, the led should be orange or off? Right?
Thanks for the responses guys, I'll have the pc later today.

I removed the AGP card, cleared the cmos and booted it up. The display worked fine, I put the AGP card back and it booted again. So what's the problem? The boyfriend says their was a power cut a day or 2 before while he worked on the pc, he says after that the power came back as he was busy playing a game and the screen went blank? Could this have something to do with the ExtremeG drivers? What do you think could the problem be? Unless the little sh!t is lying to me, it brings up a concern that the pc would fail while your're working on it, after a power failure I could understand it, but not while your working with it. Any ideas?

youre not using the official drivers? thats not a good idea on a tempermental rig.
check for bios updates, other than that, you have a tempermental piece of hardware somewhere.

I just put the official drivers back, thanks for the feedback. Maybe it'll make a difference.

I think you also should try to update the chipset driver. This driver ( as you probably know) have some influence on the AGP port for ex. Maybe the one's installed got corrupted? At least it won't do any harm.

Just installed the latest chipset driver, you know when you are busy with a pc, you forget all the tips and tricks and stuff to do. When you haven't got a problem, it's easy to give someone else help.
Thanks alot for the info and idea's guys. Love ya lots , not yet, but I care for you
Thanks guys, I'm sending this post from the troubled pc, testing it out a bit.
