Hi i just bought a new comp and about 2 weeks in my computer reset by its self and its happening for often now... i built the computer myself and its a AMD 3000 on a Gigabyte k8n-sli and it only happens when i run programs that uses the net e.g: Limewire, MSN but not while im running games and if i turn my computer on and leave it to start up by itself it resets everytime. i have to move the cursor around while its starting so it wont reset, its a really weird problem and it would be good if someone could help me out with it. And i try running limewire all night and i wake up to a screen with nothing on it just my desktop...
If you can help me PLEASE tell me thanks

I dought if it is overheating, but it is possible. Have you got enough ventilation?
If it is restarting itself, it could be down to a software problem. You need to go to the system properties - Advanced. In startup & recovery section go to Settings & un-tick the option to automatically restart.
When the machine goes to restart itself now you should get a BSOD. Check what this says. it may point to a program that is causing the fault. Also check the minidump file that should be in your systems root on c:\
You can change where the minidump file goes too in the same place as described above.
Hope this is of some use.

ok thanks man i reckon thats the prob i unchecked it and we see what happens, i get a blue screen for like 0.3seconds then it resets but its definatley not overheating, i got thermaltake soprano... REALLY good air flow and its real cool. but thanks ill see if this works.

oh sorry for doulbleposting but if there is a software prob (which there is probally cause i did it all my self) how can i reslove it?
Posted by: kestrel1
Depends on the problem. If it is an application, try re-installing it. If it is down to a driver get an update from the internet. Actually , with an application, you could also have a look at the developers website to see if they have a patch or update.

move the ethernet card to a different slot.

its not a ethernet card, i think it could be a driver prob cause it is reseting still but now i can see what the ble screen says. It says something like this "Disable or uninstal new drivers or software recently installed. Disable BIOS options such as caching and shadowing."
i dont really understand whats its saying but ive tried to download some of the drivers multiple times and every time it gets to instal it it comes up with "error this file is corrupt" theres also something making my files i download be corrupt eg: msn.. i downloaded it about 5 times all the times said was corrupt, i ended up having to put it on flash drive from my brothers computer to mine.
if anyong can help me PLEASE do so. Thanks

oh..... my minidump has 45 files in there one of them is recent about the same time when my computer reset... what does the minidump do? does that mean its a driver/software problem *sorry for double posting =( *
P.S. it seems the first time it started to occour was 6/1/06 thats about 2 days after i got my computer... and i think that was when i tried leaving it on all night to download movie.

Are you sure that you haven't picked up a virus? I assume that when you about downloading a movie you are using P2P software. This is not a good idea. You can pick up a virus very easily using P2P.
Re-boot in safe mode, by pressing F8 before XP begins to load & un-install the ethernet drivers. Restart XP normally & the drivers should be installed again, but hopefully without corrupted files. This sometimes works, but not always.
By the way what does the minidump file actually say?
Posted by: ct_striker
uhmm do i have to run the minidump files in notepad or something?? cause right now it just tells me to choose a program to run the file with.. ill try doing that thing about removing ethernet driver and tell u what happens. thanks

one more thing should the driver be in "add or remover programs" folder?? cause i cant see it unless its called "nvidia network acess manager"
Posted by: kestrel1
No the driver wouldn't appear in 'Add/Remove Programs'
You need to right click on 'My Computer', select properties from the drop down list. Once in the System properties, choose the 'Hardware' tab then device manager & you can uninstall the driver from here.
