BSOD - cmaudio.sys

Hi
I tried playing a song and my pc instead showed a BSOD. Here is the text under the STOP line:
//
cmaudio.sys - Address F6DAB964 base at F6D82000, DateStamp 3dd89c0b
//
Google suggests faulty sound drivers. I've listened to music for a day since seeing the BSOD and no problems occurred again (yet). Please help me find the specific solution to prevent seeing this BSOD again.
I am running Windows XP Pro w/ SP2.
Thank You.

I would suggest that you get the latest sound drivers & install them. You may have a corrupt file for the drivers.
I assume that this is on-board audio. If so go to the motherboard manufacturers website & get the drivers from there.

Thanks for the suggestion kestrel1.
I have a really cheap sound card installed in addition to on-board sound. I'll download the latest driver for my sound card.
Should I also download the motherboard driver if my speakers are not plugged into the motherboard audio input?
Thanks for the help.

No I wouldn't bother with the drivers for the onboard because this should be disabled in the BIOS. You want to make sure that it is.
However, You could always remove the internal sound card & use the onboard, to see if that solves the problem.
What is the sound card that you are using? & what make is the mobo?
CMaudio mostly relates to on-board sound, so you may find that if you disable it in the BIOS your problem will be sorted.

Hi. I have a st lab c-media 8738 soundcard and an Intel 915GAVL motherboard.
I downloaded the latest cmaudio driver (st lab c-media 8738 xp soundcard v0644). The problem is not going away.

Daydream,
To disable the on-board sound, you need to enter the BIOS. To do this you need to press a key on the keyboard, normally this is 'delete' or 'F1'.
You may get a message on screen to tell you which key to press.
Once you are in the BIOS, you need to find an entry for the on-board sound & select disable.
With any luck this will sort the problem.
