Hi,
I just moved and when I unpacked my computer which was working fine before move, it is now shutting down as soon as I log on. Virus scan will run and I get on main screen and it justs shuts down on me. Anyone know what could be causing the problem or what I can do? I have unplugged and still not working.
Thank you,
Tracie

Go into safe mode, press F8 as soon as your pc starts up, keep pressing F8, you will see a list of choices, choose the top one that says safe mode(just safe mode)
Click on your username when it has finished loading, after that click yes.
Go into My Computer and right click on your C drive, left click on properties , click on tools then click on check now. Click on Automatically fix errors(select it so that there is a check) and on scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors. Click start. If it asks to check the system on restart of your system with a message like can't mount volume or something like that, say yes.
Restart the pc and wait for it to complete checkdisk, don't press any keys, just let it run. After the checkdisk your pc should work fine, if nothing hardware related is wrong. While it's checkdisking have a cup of coffee or something!
Drop the guys a line in the hardware section if it didn't work.
This is for Windows Xp, if you need help with another operating system please specify what you are using

Could be many things ..
Best practice - especially after a move where the machine can get jarred about, open up the case, make sure that everything is seated properly.. Ram - Vid Card , and the processor, and its fan, power into the mainboard.

It could be alot of things, checking that all the hardware is firmly connected is not a bad move, but you could run a checkdisk aswell It's a girl alro, check the name is Tracie, there's a female on OTS! LOL

If your checkdisk didn't work you could do a repair install as mentioned here http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm
This was provided by the creator of OTS goranpaa. He is the brainchild of OTS, he creates this site by mere thought, everything comes to existence by his intellect that reproduces itself upon his logging in of the site. LOL
Thanks for the info goranpaa
