prison over crowding

you know how everyones always saying the prisons are over crowded? well why dont we build a skyscraper prison out in the middle of say the navada desert? a prison 30 stories could hold millions of prisoners...
why not?

it costs a lot of money to incarcerate someone.

i relize that but they let people out early because of over crowding... ie(from the tv show that inspired this thread) a man was supposed to serve 20 years for murder in flordia, he got out after 5 years because of over crowding then went and killed another women a year after he was released.
+ wouldnt it be more cost effective to have more people in one building anyway? (without the cost of building the structure i mean)

dude, in spite of what you see on tv, they dont let murderers out 15 years early. its usually drug offenders and nonviolent crimes that get released when overcrowding exists, and its generally a few weeks or months early, not years.
prisons are very expensive to build and maintain, which escapes some people. it usually runs 10-15k a year per prisoner.
on a separate note, a skyscraper would either be hella insecure or a death trap. theres a reason prisons are usually only 2 floors.

Was this a fictional T.V. show? If not then please link something because as far as I know, not claiming to be a expert, early release for overcrowding is only for non-violent criminals. Considering more then 60% of people in American prisons are non-viloent offenders I wouldn't think it would be hard to find one. Again I could be completely mistaken and am curious about the incident you are citing.
And back to your original question of skyscrapers. I would have to say that if we struck down some of the draconian drug laws in America and focused on treatment/rehabilitation for some we could get rid of overcrowding all together. Building more prisons will not solve anything imho.

I got a better idea. Let's take the prison work force and make them carve a tunnel to the earth's core. This will put them all to good use and occupy about fifty years.
After that we'll make them reinforce the tunnel with concrete, steel, diamonds, and pie. This will take another thirty or fourty years to accomplish.
Once it's finished we lock the gates so the prisoners have nowhere to go and once all existing prisoners have been absorbed into the earth's liquid fire we unlock the gate and toss any future prisoners in the giant hole/tunnel.
Then we convert each standing prison into a network of free resorts / pleasure palaces / brothels, where you may find and use any thing you could possibly want.
Everyone wins!

It is nice someone remembers me. Not that I have ever posted here all that often to be remembered though.
And I didnt mean my comment to sound as rude as it looks upon reading it. Just letting a murderer out of jail 15 years early sounds strange to me, red seems to feel the same way.

I remember you from OTS back when diablo 2 was the cool game.
Also your join date on the forum itself is only a few months after theemon so he should be more observant (what, lol).

Hmm there are two serious responses to your thread and you have not replied to either.
As to me posting you are correct sir, I just looked it up I have only posted here 291 times in 5 years. Over the years I forget about the ots forums but then come back and read up and then I only post every so often as I normally have nothing to add on tech matters.

Last I checked, only 1 point is awarded for derailing a thread by Theemon. Come on now Bish. Let's be sporting.

my entire post was a conjoined reference to two different scifi movies, with a passing nod to the movie where they do build a fifty billion story tall skyscraper prison out in the middle of the desert.
I hear pie is winning in the polls, these days. Perhaps the republicrats ought to endorse it.
