I probably should have posted here before i actually made the purchase but i think that everything looks good/compatible. Let me know otherwise. It will be used for everything, but mainly gaming. I think that i will throw the raptor 10,000 rpm on this bad boy, or maybe even scuzzi but who knows.

AAAHHH! Those good ol taxes

Yeah, that seems to be a nice gaming rig. The only thing maybe that I have my doubts about, is the powersupply in the Sunbeam case. As I dont know how good they are at PSU:s? Or what brand this is, if they use another brand than their own? But how good / bad that PSU is? is a flip of the coin.

And the Raptor is a good choise for HDD.

A small tip:

The Corsair value Select RAM, are good and stable RAM. But if you later on, want to speed up things somewhat? Get this RAM.

CORSAIR XMS 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit System Memory - Retail $94.00 ( newegg).

I wish that i would have purchased that ram instead, since it is only 25 bucks more for a little more speed. What do you look for in the memory that tells you that it is faster??? i figured ddr, ddr2, and ddr3 is the only difference in speed.
But it isnt like i cant buy it down the road. I can easily find a home for the memory that i bought now to justify purchasing the suggested faster memory.
the power supply is a gamble, but a cheap one. It is hard to research the psu that comes in the case, since there isnt to much info given in the details. I had to look at on of the pictures to decide if i would need a 20 - 24 pin connector for the psu and mobo.
Anyways thanks for the input. It looks like your system will kick my a$$, but this is still a huge upgrade for me since i been running anywhere from p4 1.8 to p2 233. ha ha.

Hi!

The timings, is the way to look for faster(st) RAM. Example: your Corsair Value Select = 2.5-3-3-8 The XMS is 2.0-3-3-6. The most important figure is the fist one in the row. Called "Cas Latency".
The tighter timings, the better speed And as a result, faster loadtimes and less delay. But too tight timings, can give booting and instability problems with certain mobos and cpu speeds. And you are forced to choose some looser ones in the BIOS.

But the timings that XMS RAM, got is fast enough. And should'nt give you any problems. And you can probably run the XMS sticks at even slightly tighter timings. Mostly due to, that the XMS RAM modules, are better quality. The Value Select is a nice, stable and reliable RAM not meant for high speed or overclocking.

A setting you should make in BIOS though, Is to make sure the RAM timings, are set to "T1". This will further speed up things. The "T2" setting, is useful, for RAM sizes over 1 gigabyte.

Well, I think you have a really nice system there. And you will play tuff games like F.E.A.R., like a charm on it. And it whas a good move to choose the MSI Videcard. As MSI is the brand that have the best stock cooling system. And 6800GS, is a very nice card, that can reach 6800Ultra speeds, with some overclocking. Not by all means nessisary though.

Yeah, I can imagene, you noticed a big difference from your old system. That must have been like having an old Volvo, and then getting a sports car lol.

Edit: if you get the XMS RAM. Then after installing it. Download the small software "CPU Z" and check what timings you have got? The XMS should be as said, 2.0-3-3-6

Some BIOS versions, miss read some RAM models. And you will manually have to set the timings correctly in BIOS. Consult your motherboard manual.

EDIT II:

I went to Corsairs memory configurator, to check if the XMS that I showed you whas a good choise?

And according to that configurator, it is an excellent choise. But your Asus motherboard can run much tuffer Corsair RAM than that. Like the
$252.00 TWINXP1024-3200XL timings: 2.0-2-2-5 (See picture)

Finally got my PC last night and started putting it together. There is ALOT more going on when you when your mobo can do sat2, sli............
i was overwhelmed at first but slowly it came together. I was able to power up and get into the bios(dont have harddrive on their yet) but one thing that i noticed is after it ran for a couple of minutes, the chip fan on the mother board became noisy. One way to describe the noise, to me, is an older loud harddrive that crunches when you process info. i checked the fan and pushed around on it but couldnt see a problem. It did feel hot pretty quickly and I noticed the speed picked up to 5000 rpm before i shut it off. i shutdown and restarted a couple of times and it did the same thing. i dont know if this is normal so i will hold off on running it until i get an ok from ots. thanks for any help

Sounds a bit omnious about that chipset fan. So it sounds like it squeeks and grindes? Can you lubricate it? But 5000RPM?! Are you sure?

If I where you, I should contact ASUS Tech support. And I guess they will say you should return the mobo.

But on the other hand, a new chipset fan and some good thermalpaste (Arctic Silver Ceramique) is'nt that expensive. But may involve that you will have to take the mobo out again

O.k. I looked around on the speeds of Chipset fans, and many of them are actually 5000 RPM. And I guess the Nforce 4 Chipset will need mayor cooling as that chipset gets really warm. I have a chipset fan on my Epox mobo. But that fan I can't hear.
