Whenever I try and start windows media 10 either by trying to download video or watch video on puter I get an error message 'Media has encountered a problem' the error signature is
'AppName: wmplayer.exe'
'AppVer: 10.0.0.3802'
'ModName: shdocvw.dll'
'ModVer: 6.0.2900.2180'
'Offset: 0001638e'
Have tried to reregister vbscript and jscript but didnt solve the problem.
I also had some trouble with my Apache2 server but have fixed that issue, that was caused when i tried to install some PHP add ons and it disabled Apache service for some reason. I know the dll is also connected to urlmon.dll, could the problem be there ?
Im sunning XP media with service pack 2, tried a system restore but didnt go back far enough and lost earlier restor points . I know winamp is an option just dont like the idea that something on my machine doesnt work right.
Thanks in advance.

i had this same exact problem.. for some reason after reading your post it gave me the idea of going to the shdocvw.dll file and getting rid of it.. well the first thing i tried was just renaming it... i renamed it to sh.old and then clicked on a wmv file on my desktop and WHOA!! it played fine with no errors!! i dont know what that .dll is for but evidently its not needed to make wmplayer 10 work for playing video!! let me know if you fing out more.. hope this helps you!!!

Sometimes programs will look for dll's and if they find them, they will try to use them, but if they are not the right ones, they will make the program give an error, but not having them makes the program start up fine. By renaming the dll, you windows media player was not able to find it and just started up normally.

I tried renaming shdocvw.dll an when I re-booted Explorer would not start. I tried to rename after I re-booted successfully and it said the file was in use. Any other suggestions.

To get the dll back go to http://www.dll-downloads.com/download.asp or http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/d...s.shtml?shdocvw and get it there it and put it where the renamed one is.
P.S. What is your OS?

My o/s is Win XP.
I reloaded IEXPLORER AND MEDIA 10 from my original cd. When I ran Media 10, I tried to get the first internet station on my list, WKSU, and it connected and ran just fine. However, I can not get any other internet station to connect. They all crash with the same old error.
I tried dnload-dll. It did not work. It was a 1999 ver. My OS would not replace my 2005 ver. with the older one.

If you reinstalled Windows Media Player, then there might be some problem with the OS. Try a repair install of Wndows XP. You won't loose any data or anything. Reboot, but before windows loads, put the XP CD in, and it should ask what to do, so select repair install.

IT WORKED! I reloaded my XP upgrade and Media 10 and just about everything else. Media 10 is working as advertised. Many thanks for your help. I really appreciate you're sticking with this.
