I'm having a bit of a problem with converting files. I need to convert a avi file including audio to a dvd format. I used a program called imtoo avi to dvd converter, and the disk burnt, but dvd players can't read it. I tested it on 2 different dvd players and it worked on neither of them. The strange thing is, the disks will work on my computer... Does anyone know how I can make this work?

Try another converter. But have in mind that Div X (AVI) comes in a couple of different versions. So it depends what version(s) your DVD player can handle?
And converting DIV X to DVD will unfortunatly give horrible image quality. Due to the DIV X large compression.
It's better to convert it to SVCD or VCD.

The avi files are fine. They were recorded in hdtv so they aren't to bad. I think the main problem is the disk isn't finalizing. I don't see an option in the program either so I don't know what I'm going to do...

Are you sure you have'nt the program set to "open session"? Then it wont finalize the DVD. Or using a DVD RW?

Try this program DVD Santa for converting Avi files to Vob format which will be able to be played on your Dvd player...I have been using it for awhile now and i haven't had any problems with it.

I have heard about winavi, but I have a few questions. Does it just convert the avi files into vob files? Or does it convert them and burn them and finalize the disk?
I have been using a program called imtoo mpeg encoder.

I selected to encode it to vob files and it was in the NTSC format. After I converted the files I tried burning them using sonic record now. When I popped it in my dvd player it still wouldn't play!

Hi,
It just converts avi, wma and mpg to vob, it does not write to dvd. I would use CloneDVD but you could use Nero to burn the disk.

CyberLink PowerProducer Gold is a good program if you're willing to spend some money.

I don't see why I'm encountering these problems. If I have the converter files on my harddrive I should be able to burn them to a dvd with any dvd burning software!!! I will look into clone dvd and Powerproducer gold. If you guys have any other tips of suggestions, please post, I want to get this working!

That doesn't matter, actually. Once the files are converted into a DVD-compatible format, it doesn't make a difference what it was before.

While it's true that re-encoding video files will degrade the quality, it's not better to convert to (S)VCD instead of DVD. Of these 3 formats VCD is lowest quality, then SVCD, then DVD.

Then why don't you just use a program that has an option to close the session?

Ok well I just installed nero and had partial success... I was able to burn everything to a dvd and have it work on the dvd player, but when it was reading it said that because I didn't have a plugin pack it wouldn't let me burn in dolby digital or something like that. So I just clicked ok and it burnt. I popped it in my dvd player, the video played, but I had no sound!! What's up with that??? I have soud with the file on my computer!! I guess I need some plugin..

See how it says Audio SmartEncoding ratio: 0.0 %, I take it that means there is no audio... Does anyone know what I can do?
