Ps2 wireless online

I am trying to play my ps2 wirelessly online. I know I need A router and a wireless access point. Does the access point have to plug into the ethernet port or can it plug into the ps2 USb port also?

I think it has to plug into the ethernet port, otherwise how would the access point connect to the internet? Plugging it into the PS2 wouldn't make much sense. But you would need some sort of wireless adapter thing to plug into the PS2 so it could connect tothe access point.
