This is a update of Direct X 9.0. Called DirectX End-User Runtimes (February 2006).
But could as well be called DirectX 9.0d.
Those of you who owns the series 6 and 7 cards or Radeon X cards, will have extra good use of this update. Especially, if you are running the latest drivers from ATI and Nvidia. As some bugs with this drivers are fixed with this update. Will also improve system stability.
Here are some notes from Microsoft about the update:
# The DirectX redist installation includes all the latest and previous released DirectX runtime. This includes the bi-monthly D3DX, XInput, and Managed DirectX components.
# The DirectX runtime cannot be uninstalled. We recommend Windows Me and Windows XP users create a "System Restore" point before installing. For information on creating a restore point, please refer to the following Microsoft Knowledge Base articles:
Windows Millennium Edition: Microsoft Knowledge Base article 267951.
Windows XP: Microsoft Knowledge Base article 310405.
# This update is recommended for those user that do not have internet connection during installation.
This package is localized into Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Czech, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Spanish, Swedish, and English.

Yeah it will improve stability. And as you are running a 6800 it is a good thing. But as Microsoft says. Make a system restore point first before you install the DX9 update as a safety precausion.
I did this update 2 days ago. And at least I havent experiensed anything negative with this update on my 2 SLI rigs. The one in my sig, and a rig with a X850 Pro PCI E.
And I did the Direct X diagniostics yeasterday eve. And they passed.

Can I just delete all the files it unzipped or do I need those?

After you installed the update, you can throw the unzipped files in the bin. If you dont wanna keep the update for future use?
But dont forget to make the system restore point, before you install.
