Hi !

This is a very common problem people are having coming here.
When SIMS2 says it could'nt find any "direct X 9.0 compatible graphic adapter". Is because you have a very old videocard or a integrated video chip, that lacks support for DirectX 9.0.

So you will need to get a new videocard.

But before you run for the PC hardware shop.
Make sure you know what kind of videocard interface your motherboard can handle?

Download "Everest Home", from the link below, and look under "motherboard" and "expansion slots" for something called "AGP slot".

Everest Home here:

http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html

If you find you have an AGP port on your motherboard? Then this is a good card, that will allow you to play the games of today, including SIMS2.

SAPPHIRE 100573L-BK Radeon 9600XT 128MB 128-bit DDR AGP 4X/8X Video Card - Retail $77.00

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16814102510

If it shows you dont have any AGP port?

Then you can use this card instead, that will fit into any of the "PCI slots" on the motherboard:

PNY VCGFX55PPB Geforce FX5500 128MB 128-bit DDR PCI Video Card - Retail $62.00

Here is a more complete guide , how to install a videocard:

( The Radeon 9600 I talk about here, is just a hypothetical vidiocard) But the installation is the same for any videocard.

1. Uplug the PC a couple of minutes before you open the case. And unplug the monitor cable from the old videocard.

2. Grab a water tap or kitchen sink, before you touch any hardware, including the videocard. This you do to remove yourself from static electrisity. Static el, can actually kill PC hardware even in small amounts.

3. After opening the Case. Find the AGP slot ( See picture,. The slot with the white circle. (That is, if you have been using an integrated card before?)

Then take out a medium sized Philips screwdriver and remove the slot plate in front of the AGP slot.

4. If you look at the back of the AGP slot. You will find a kind of slider lock. Pull this back to open.

5. Now, ease the 9600 card into the slot. And use the fingertips on the edge of the videocard to press it all the way down into the slot. Lock the card in place , using the slider. And fasten the card to the slot opening in the case, using the screw from the PCI slot cover plate.

6. Close the case and connect the monitor cable to the card, and plug the pc power cable in.

7. If you have been using the integrated videocard? Then tap the "delete key" at the very first screen you see when booting up. Othervice skip this and #8 in this guide.

Would like to add that you may or may not have to disable that old integrated video chip you got now, after you installed the new card. This depending on if your motherboard, automatically disables the integrated videocard or not? So motherboards do , some dont. You will notice if you will have to manually disable the old integrated card.

8. Inside BIOS, navigate using the "arrow keys" and look for a menue called "integrated perpherials" or something like it. And disable the integrated videocard.. Save this setting before you leave BIOS.

9. When at your Windows desk. Drop the CD, that came with the Radeon card into your CD / DVD drive and install the driver. You could also, before you mount the videocard. Head over to ATI home and download the latest Catalyst driver. (Version 6.3). This, because the driver thats on the cd probably is quite old.

10. After installing the driver, and rebooting. Check the videocard manual for additional settings in "ATI Tray Tool" or "ATI Control Control Centre". Or google for the different settings. (If you are getting a Geforce videocard? Then just right click on the desk and then choose "Propertys" and "Advanced" to get to the quality adjustments for the Geforce videocard.) Also rightclick your Windows desk and adjust the resoloution in the drivers propertys. (1024 X 768 - 16 bit is a good average setting). Then click the "advanced button" and the "monitor button". Set the Refresh rate to 75 or 85 MHz. This will lower the monitors flickering and spare your eyes.

11. Hurrah! you're finished

The problem could be with your cd-rom and or the disc. Try to clean the disc with a soft cloth or a disc cleaner. if it still doesn't work you have to test the disc on another pc, see if installs there, if it does your cd-rom is busted.
