Floppy Drive (A) doesn't show up in 'My Computer"

I was gifted with a Dell with Windows 2000, SP4. I can't access the "A" drive, and it doesn't show up in "My Computer", Explorer, or "Send To" lists. The drive itself does work as shown by the fact that when I start out with a HDD diagnostic which loads before Windows does, everything does work well. I have swapped out the floppy and the cable anyway. There is no IRQ conflict. I have gone in as Administrator and tried to set the Group Policy Editor to show all drives. The machine otherwise is clean and runs well

It has to be a bios setting, check at the first option in the bios that the floppy drive is set to A: and that 1.44mb floppy is selected as the mode. Disable secondary floppy and so forth.
