On my girlfriends computer she recently has been getting a message taht says "virtual memory low" what does that mean exactly, I build the computer, its an Asus A7N8X-Deluxe with an AMDXP2800+ and 512MB DDR-333 dual channel corsair xms RAM and usually is just running no more then AOL, virus scan, and windows media player, so why would the memory be running out?

with that low amount of ram, why would you think it wouldnt? nothing odd about the message, just increase the size of the page file.

that amount of ram really doesnt seem to be low for her applications, the most I have seen for her programs as far as memory usage collectavely probly isnt over 300k let alone 512k, on my laptop I run the same sorts of applications and never had a problem

AOL is well known for having multiple processes running at once, so if she plans on staying with them you might want to have her go to www.oempcworld.com and get some more physical memory. Windows XP also gets hungry when surfing the net - and of course speeding up any apps for the future is a bit of a bonus too. In the short term at least increasing the size of the page file might help.
