CS:S Ping problems

i have played CS:Source for several months now without any problems, but now i join a game, it works fine for roughly 5 minutes, then my ping rises from between 50-100ms ( i dont join games with any higher pings, and my connection is 576Kbps.), up to around 750ms. it is only today that these problems have started, and i do not know what has caused it
Is this due to my connection, the game, or something else? Any help will be appreciated.
