Is it true that Norton will slow down the computer speed a lot?
Cause i feel freaking lag when I play World of Warcraft after I install Norton2006.

Try disabling Norton while you play before you uninstall it. Then try another antivirus program such as McAfee and see if you get any different speeds. But beforeyou do all that run a virus scan.
i have heard numerous people complain that Notron slows down thier computers, but I only used it for a couple of weeks before I got McAfee. If comcast is your ISP, then you get McAfee Internet security (minus SpamKiller) for free.

Norton is like cancer to your system. Good luck uninstalling it completely. You will need to clear all symantec norton entries from your registry as well as live updater. I have tested many av progs over the past few years and I can recommend a couple that are very efficient without slowing your system very much.

Nod 32
Fsecure
Kaspersky

I install one of these on every pc that I build.
Also note that your spyware scanner could be running while you are gameing, that will also run up cpu usage. My suggestion would be to steer clear of symantec altogether.

This is just my personal opinion based on my experiences. Good Luck to You!

I agree with the guy above. Norton and Mc Affe, is the biggest resourse hogs you can find in the antivirus department. They also meddle with allmost any software you have installed.

Get AVG or Avast. They are free, and just as good as the pay for antivirus.

If you must get one you pay for? Get Kaspersky. Download a trial and see for yourself.

You must download a "uninstall tool" from Symantec, to be able to uninstall Norton completely.

yeah goranpaa is right! he recommended avast to me and it sure is good. Very good indeed! now my PC is faster than ever! Thanks goranpaa!

You're welcome. Glad you liked Avast.

The program is called symantec removal tool (For removing all of norton)

The other advantage to Avast is that it works with 64 bit operating systems. McAfee doesn't, and I don't think Norton does either. I think both companies are just praying Microsoft keeps putting off the general distro of Vista - which is now put off until 2007.

Avast rocks. I would just download that, hey what the heck, ITS FREE!

Norman,

Consider Pc-Cillin, I've had great detection and removal results with it. It's security package is alright too, bundled with an Anti-spyware program. But yes, Norton is evil to older machines, even newer ones feel it.
