Call Of Duty Game of the Year (PC)

Um... Okay im new.. dont know protocols or any of that but here goes.
I play Call of Duty Game of the year edition (PC) and whenever i try to open multiplayer it closes and gives me the CoDMP.exe has encountered a probllem and needs to close message... is there a solution? Ive tried reinstalling, but i havnt manually removed all the files yet... on fear of angering my step dads long save file that he works so hard at >.< Any one got a suggsetion outside of removing then reinstalling?
