well try this:

1) if the xbox from the store is not brand new, ask for a non-full retail price on it firstly and a new power cable - big issues happened over the last year or so about this.

2) If it is brand new n its not solved by 1) then; take it to someone u know whose an electro-geek or if you know what your doing open up the case n check the board for rough soldering or chip/s looking non-factory or not flat tack on the main board etc.

3) try a different power outlet, extension cord/s, multi adapter/s and/or dif T.V, A.V connection to your VCR via AV Channel, as with factory xboxs if the xbox is not AV connected properly they flash orange, also the same if the control pad is unplugged on earlier models.

4) wriggle your power cord to make sure it is in good at your home.

5) check your power meter/box or the slang you would call the fuse box etc in your country n check the room your in is not bursting, capping or outting when its plugged in.

6) make sure your house is wired to the national standard of the xbox, e.g jap import, us export, UK transitional trade n so on.

7) if none of these work get a replacement xbox from the place you brought it at, if this n all else fails, well your house/tv must have an AV/power problem n would not be the xboxs' fault unless this shop sells faulty xbox's. that shop may have a bundle stock of them too.
