i have an ATI Radeon Xpress 200m in my toshiba satellite m50 notebook, and it says it has 64meg video memory, how do i allocate 128 to the card instead of 64, i know its a dynamic card and i read that it can be allocated up to 256megs.
Or does dynamic mean that it will automatically use up to 256 if it needs to and i dont need to do anything?

I guess, that it will "borrow" the RAM that's needed for the moment.
Most integrated videocards do that.

You will have to change the amount of video memory in the BIOS. I did this to my card, I switched it from 64 MB to 128 MB. As goranpaa said, this will use memory on the RAM, so make sure you have at least 512 MB (bare minimum for 128 MB of video memory), but 1 GB is perfered. If you want to go up to 256 MB of video memory (this card can), have at least 1 GB, don't do it with 512 MB.

matt, that was very helpfull, can u please explain to me about the BIOS and how i can alter it, what exactly do i go to in order to do that, i would like to upgrade it from 64 to 128 as i have 512 megs of ram, but i soon plan to upgrade to a gig, so then i will like to go to 256.
Anyway, please get back to me on that one!

Guys, i entered the bios by pressing f2 at startup, but there were no options on display. Do u think its possible that if i launched a game that required 128 megs of video memory, the card would use that amount? so if i upgraded to 1gig or more ram, i could potentially run games requiring up to 256megs of memory? [i read that this video card can use up to 256 when the system memory is 1gig]???
it says it currently uses 64megs but im guessing thats what it uses for everything i do in windows but could extend higher itself when launching higher end games
would this be correct?

It may depend on the version of BIOS you have. There are many versions and some will limit the amount listed as "shared memory" based on how much physical memory you have. I found this out when I went from 512MB to 1024MB. Suddenly the options for the shared memory increased from a high of 64 to letting me set it as high as 128. The ratios of shared memory available to total physical memory present seem to vary from one mobo to the next too. So it's possible that your notebook might allow you to set it as high as 256 with a full gig of physical memory even though my system limited it to 128.

On my card, if I run out of video memory, it will give me a message saying that I ran out of video memory. I would be surprised if your BIOS actually didn't have an option for adjusting video memory, especially with a radeon card. Look around, mabye there is something you missed.

well theres nothing on video memory or display from what i can see in the bios? maybe i should email toshiba or ATI?
if i purchase a 1gig value ram stick, and run that with one of my current 256 sticks, and am able to allocate 256 to video memory and still have 1 gig system memory, that would make my laptop quite capable for gaming hey?

well hopefully your right in that the option will become available when i upgrade to a gig of ram. Currently i have 512 as you did and my video card has 64megs of memory.
Guys, do you think i could get away with battlefield 2 once i upgrade to a gig of memory, and boost my video card to 128 or 256, even though i have a 1.5ghz processor? the minimum is 1.7 i read...

Well, 1 gig of memory, will definite be of good help for the performance.
Corsair and Kingston makes good RAM for your notebook.
But you may eventually be slightly bottlenecked by that 1.5GHz cpu.

The best way, to lessen the pressure on the cpu / RAM when gaming. Is to shut down as many running programs as possible before you start to game.
Also do a check up on how many unnessisary services you got running?
This is done by downloading SIS Sandra diagnostic software. And useing the "Fine tune module" to see what services is safe to shut down?
Then type, msconfig in "RUN" and disable what Sandra says is o.k.

just bought a 1gig 533mhz pc2-4300 Rambo Ram new on ebay
when it comes ill let u guys know what i can do with video settings and whatnot

alright guys, got my 1gig of ram installed now, so i have a 1gig and a 256meg in there, its automatically put my video memory up to 128 now
my question is, i have the ram and video memory requirements for battlefield 2 now, but my processor is a 1.5 not the 1.7 that it apparently needs, will the game be playable?
Posted by: goranpaa
It should be. But maybe the best way to find out. Is to download the playable demo and see for yourself.
