i own a radeon 9600 le 256mb graphics card and it used to play games really well like conterstrike condition zero with no lag at all but lately or about 7 months later i can play this game with great difficulty i have much lag throught the game and several other games including battlefield 1942 and many others. the question is what is causeing this, could it be that my card is dying or that it needs new drivers or something. i also have 768mb of ram now and had it then. or perhaps could it be that my ram or motherboard or cpu has a problem. all help is greatly appreciated nad thanks for taking the time to read this.

Hi!

To start with. Run a couple of antispyware programs.
Defrag your harddrive.
And download SIS Sandra. And use Sandra's "Fine Tune" module, to see what unnessisary services you can shut down?

When Sandra is finished. Type msconfig in "Run" and disable the services Sandra tells you it is o.k. to shut down.

Update your videocard driver at ATI home. The latest Catalyst driver is 6.3.

But uninstall the old driver in Windows control panel, " add / remove programs" before you install the new driver.

Have you recently changed any settings for the game in the program compatability wizard? I tried to play a game that was written for Pentium S on my system with an ATI 9650 and Athlon 64 Dual Core and found it very slow because the settings were wrong. You might also want to check Radeon's website to see if there are any updates to the drivers. They're introducing new cards and updates to the old ones so constantly now. You might want to consider upping the memory to a full gig if you're running a lot of stuff in the background or checking your virtual memory settings to be sure the system controls the size of the page file.

Yeah, Sandra is a great diagnostic software, with some nice benchmarks also.
