bios update

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

does ANYONE know if there is an update for my BIOS? I have a Compaq Presario 5726. I've upgraded RAM along with windows xp.

Why do you want a BIOS upgrade. I would only do a BIOS upgrade if I had a problem with the BIOS or some hardware required the upgrade to be recognised. Upgrading the BIOS can cause more trouble than it is worth.

ever since I upgraded to xp I haven't been able to access the BIOS on startup. I've tried f1, f2, del, & esc. I don't know if it is xp or norton, but i just can't seem to even view my BIOS at all.

no software you put on your computer will keep you from accessing the bios. are you sure youre pressing it soon enough?

I'm pressing the keys when i see the compaq logo appear, do i need to shut down completely or is re-start good enough? I see a KEYBOARD ERROR when I try at that point.

see private message.
If you are seeing a keyboard error, ensure your keyboard is plugged in correctly. You may also have a faulty keyboard. That is probably why you cannot enter the BIOS. the keyboard needs to be functioning.

I double checked the keyboARD IS FINE according to the scANS, and is plugged in properly, I'm beginning to think it's the keyboARD ITSELF. IT'S JUST a problem thAT COMES And goes, one dAY IT WILL JUST STArt working AGAin.

It sounds more like a hardware issue, in which case a BIOS upgrade/update won't fix it. If it is a PS2 keyboard, try a USB one, and if its a USB one, try a PS2 one. Also try another keyboard that pluggs into the same port. There are PS2 to USB and USB to PS2 adapters avalible.

Take a look at this thread, I think the keyboard is screwed up.

I would say it is the keyboard. If you look at your last thread you have many capitals in there & I am sure you are not doing this by design. Also the PM that you sent me was the same. Change the keyboard.
