I have a friend with a Dell and it has Rambus RAM.Anyone know much about this RAM other than it is very costly. Can it be removed and another type put in?

Posted by: redwench

it can certainly be removed. but without replacing the board, you cannot put in another type.

If you are going to change the mobo for a model with DDR? Make sure it's a Dell motherboard again.

Or you may have problems, fitting it. Dell, often use custom made mobos. That is adapted for their special CPU heatsink among other things.

Also make sure, you get the correct CPU socket.

Unless it is one of those oddities that can accept DDR or RAMBUS..... a guy at work has one, I didnt believe him until he brought it in for me to work on it.
