Putting A DVD on a CDr

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I don't have a DVD burner however I understand it is possible to get a DVD movie and put in on a CDr. I've found ways to do this on the net and I have DVD Wizard Pro, however it seems pretty complicated to me and although I've tried, I haven't had much success. Any of you have any experience in this or can point me in the right direction?

If you want to put a movie on a CD, create a VCD or SVCD. These are encoded in MPEG-2 like a DVD video, but don't hold as much. A SVCD is compressed more and holds more content, but is in a lower quality. I would use PowerProducer, its very easy to use and can make DVDs, VCDs, and SVCDs. If you need the same compression, quality, and amount of time, then you will have to do CD spanning, where you span the data on the DVD onto multiple CDs.

I googled PowerProducer and it doesn't appear to be free. Are there any freeware programs out there that would allow me to do this?

No, its not free, and any MPEG-2 encoding and DVD/VCD burning program will probably cost some amount of money. Unfortunatly, DVD Wizard is just for copying, although you might be able to burn VCDs with the burning program that came with your computer.
