Backing up Windows updates

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

My question might be bit lame ..

is there a way to back up all the windows updates and fixes to a specific folder or cd ?

or include them on a windows xp cd that already has SP2 so that they're installed automatically...

thx

There are over 25 updates and fixes to Windows XP available, so they might take more space than can be put on a single CD. However, at one time I used Nero to make a backup of Windows XP Professional with the updates. At the time I only had a CD writer and not a DVD writer. It spent about 3 hours making the backup and then I turned out not to have enough CD-RWs on hand to back the full backup. You can try doing a snapshot of the hard drive just after installing Windows with its updates, and then make a backup of the image to DVDs. There are a few programs to do that with - including Norton Ghost. I never have tried it with Ghost myself because the version of Ghost that came with my mobo only worked with Windows versions up to Windows 98.

you can download, in a standard fashion, all the windows updates from microsoft. might take you a wee bit of hunting to find them, but they are there and available for just your stated purpose.

redwench is right. Using the Windows Catalog feature of Windows Update, you can browse an entire catalog of administrative updates.

They're sorted by language, processor architecture, operating system.

I do this myself often, as I've got 5 or 6 of similiar XP systems on my LAN. I use an Administrative Installation point in which I can store my fully updated Office installations and just detect and repair all my 5 systems.

Btw, am I the only one that thinks it's completely retarded how often Windows Update forces you to restart your computer?:/

Not at all! I love how they say like Windows is hiding the download in the background so you can continue to work....................but don't get to comfy, cause your going to have to restart in 5 min.
