DX10 question

If dx10 will have completely different architecture than the other dx's, will you be able to play dx9 games on a dx10 video card?

Posted by: pdnielsen

Yes, just not vice versa. Part of the reason it hasn't come out yet is that Microsoft wants to be sure of that.

Ok, I just want to make sure I can play my old games with a new vid card.

Also, can you use a dx9 soundcard with a dx10 vid card? Or are they coming out with dx10 sounds cards too?

The DX9 soundcard should'nt be a problem. And I guess, that Creative, will pretty soon release DX10 soundcards. At lest, sometimes after Vista is out.

DX10 itself, is said to be backwards compatible.

Awsome, man this sounds like it's going to be an expensive upgrade... If you want to play any new DX10 games you will need to get vista, which will be probably a couple hundred, new video card, and who knows, maybe more...

They probably will want the DX10 cards to be able to work with Windows XP as well, since Vista, Longhorn or whatever you choose to call it seems to constantly be running into delays. One of the latest ones has been a lawsuit brought against Microsoft to place an injunction against it being released without being fully evicerated. Thanks again for nothing, SYMANTEC!!!

Ooh, I hate those Symantec guys!!!! They should have called their company Praying Mantis instead.

I'd still just assume call them "out of business," but then the US can use all the high tech employers it has right now.
