Sound problem

Recently I've been encountering some really annoying sounds problems. For instance, in games, occasionally I will hear raspiness, skipping, and ear-piercing sounds.
Even now, I'm listening to music with no other programs open, and my music is skipping alot.
Does this sound like a damaged sound card? Or damaged speakers?

Update the driver. Also try to move the soundcard away from the other cards if possible. Could be electromagnetic disturbanses.
Have you played really loud recently?

My sound card is 3 slots away from my video card, and my network card is right below my sound card, but I don't think that would be causing it?
Uh, Goranpaa, I hate to bother you, but I can't seem to find the driver I'm looking for... I looked up my soundcard in the device manager, and it told me the driver version is 5.12.8.1164, but when I go onto creatives site and look at the newest drivers, they say 02.08.0004, which confuses me... What do I get??? It's just really annoying, my sound is terrible.

i would just pick the most recently released one. if i remember right, they had a web update site where it would download the drivers you need. havent used my sound blaster in a while as my motherboard has SoundStorm audio built in which is fine for me.

I updated my drivers and I'm still getting these aweful noises. Does this mean my cards busted?

Do you get this noises, both in speakers and phones?

do you have onboard audio enabled as well as the card? if so, disable onboard and reboot. also, try uninstalling EVERYTHING associated with the card, turn off, move it to another slot, and reinstall it. had similar problems with a PCI capture card, and did the above and everything turned out ok. I had PCI slots "go bad" on two different motherboards before, so try that.

Is your computer trying to do something else when you are listening to sound? Sometimes that will make it skip.

Suprisingly, the only certain speakers make certain sounds, but all will skip. I'll try headphones and get back to you guys.
