Case Airflow

Using a hardware monitor software the results show my hard disk is at 60C and my GPU is at 62C during normal operation.....
This is very alarming.
Could this be attributed to the fact that I have two exhaust fans as intake fans and a side intake fan as an exhaust fan?
Could inversing the air flow have this much of a negative impact on temperatures??
Note, my hard disk has a separate cooler unit with two fans hard at work...
Any suggestions, besides the obvious (switching all the fans around) and do you think that is mostly the problem? Or should I look into a vga cooler and a PCI cooler?

Well, the side fan usually is located right in front of the video card, so you would have air being blow at your card. As for the harddrive goes, if you don't already, have the intake fans in the front, so they blow part of the harddrive. On my case, my two intake fans blow fresh air directly at my two harddrives.

You should have the exhaust fans in the back of the case. They should also be the most powerful ones. Negative airflow, will suck the air tru the case. And is the best way to make cool air enter the case and then quickly exhust hot air. The only slight problem with this, is that it collects dust. So check the dust buil up now and then.
So if you have one in the front = intake and one at the door = intake and they are 30 CFM each. You need 2 fans at the back that is at least 65 CFM together.
The power supply, will help somewhat to exhaust heat. But not as much as you are lead to belive.
You can always add a system blower. That fits into one of the PCI slots for exhaust. Make sure to place it as high as possible. See pict.
Also try to have the cables out of the way of the fans.
Below, is a picture that shows what you should try to achieve.
Also try to lower the room temp as much as possible.
Maybe try my "Ghetto VGA cooler"? lol.

Fixing computers all day at work I rarely have the time to pay attention to my own, but this weekend I'm going to put both of the house computers on a table and go to town. Thinking about purchasing a top window kit for an intake fan since the in the front of my case there's no way to put an intake fan, it's way to awkward to get in there and the front panel doesn't come off, I don't want to destroy my case getting a fan in there. I think I would destroy my case for the top window/fan though for more intake, and the UV fan would be right by a uv cathode tube so that would look good.
I'm about to order a chipset/vga cooler for a friend, maybe I can test on my system before installing it on his to see if it affects the temps in a good way. The hard disk temperature is a mystery to me though, i've got a hard disk cooler in there so I'm thinking the general airflow of my case must be wayyyyy off and the only reason the cpu is soo cool is because the way the fans are they push the air outside the case as soon as it leaves the heatsink, and there are two fans blowing directly on it....
I'll monitor CPU temps to see if it gets too hot after the switch.. THanks for the advice guys

As you dont have a front fan mount. Maybe this will solve that problem?

I wouldn't suggest getting the slot exhuster card in the second picture Goranpaa posted. I bought that exact exhuster and it was horrible. It raised my video cards temperature instead of lowering it.

I whas'nt saying he should put it near the videocard. This time I said that he should put it as high as possible, to exhaust hot air from the case and improve air pressure in the case. Not to cool the videocard.

Oh, okay.

on the phone with tigerdirect for some mp3 players - its a sign, lol i'm going to order that 5.25" intake to even out airflow pressure. Let you know what happens... Goranpaa does it again.. Thanks man

You're welome. I whas thinking about getting that for a friend, as birthday present when I saw it. He also have a case with no front intake. And beliving Tiger d. and their "daughter company" Misco, wich we have here in Sweden would had the same supply of hardwares to offer the customers. I went there. But oh no! Misco, is a pretty washed out copy of Tiger. I think they lack a third of the stuff Tiger have to offer.
Bah! I think I soon be moving to the US. You have Newegg and Tiger, Zipzoomfly to meansion a few. And great possibilitys for flyfishing among a lot of other nice stuff.

I appologize if I sounded gruffy Gam3R. But, the heatwave we have here for over 14 days. Over 30 C daiyly and 26 C at night and air thick as syrup. And near the same temp inside my apartment, can make an old Swede loose his temper for the smallest thing. We are not used to this temps for long term up here. And aircondition are'nt common stuff in the apartments here. But now I think I will get ac, after having experiensed this sauna lol. Sorry man if I sounded snappy.
Today it's raining and the temp have dropped to 20C hurrah!!! Oh joy!

Hey, I could always place orders for you and ship the stuff out to sweden. We could make a killing

Thanks for the kind offer. I shall have that in mind.

update: flipping the fans around dropped temps about 3-4C still not good enough tho, may have to do a pci blower or ghetto cooler
Posted by: P0nix
Update: With the installation of the front exhaust ( I thought it was intake *oops ) hard drive temp dropped dramatically down to 50C and GPU at 55C. Think next/last airflow upgrade = http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16835114024 worried about the noise but hey..... I have my PC hooked into a loud stereo system

What!? exhaust? Very strange idea to have an exhaust fan that powerful in the front. And I also whas led to belive it whas an intake. But if it works as intended.....well.
Did you place it in the top bay of your case?
The GPU temp is o.k. now, providng it's under load? But the hd temp is still pretty high.
Check this out.

A case "freezer" works pretty well too. My PC runs at about 45 degrees C even in the middle of summer. It only varies by a degree or two either way no matter how hard I work the system.
As for Goranpaa's earlier comment about the weather, here in the Northeastern U.S. our problem lately has been flooding. That's in spite of a lack of runoff from snow in the spring this year. We keep roasting during the day and then wondering if we should have invested in UPSs during the night because of severe thunderstorms. If it weren't for the fact that it takes several hours to do DVD backups of 10,000 music files I might keep my PC off during the daylight hours and use it during the cooler times at night. My CRT monitor gves off a great deal of heat, and I need to keep an eye on when the computer wants the next disc. So much for restricting the AC to lower electricity use times.

I am currently using a very nice hard disk cooler ATM. I already went ahead and ordered that PCI unit. (The rotating fan is cool!) After that, I'm done with cooling or my PC is going to sound like a 747. Maybe down the road I'll do a case mod to get more intake fans going or risk damaging the front face plate by pulling it off to install an Intake fan towards the front.
Posted by: goranpaa
If it is possible to mod a 120mm fan mount that would be the best choise. 120mm fan = low rpm, good CFM and low noise.

yah http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16811999473 drool, getting one of these for a client and eyeballing your 80mm conversion piece
