Both are pretty phenomenal cards. I like the $289 one though, though I'd be glad to have either.

Yeah, the 7900 and other DX 9.0 cards will be pretty obsolete in the end of the year. Get a 7600GS or the X800GTO in the link below. Will play the games well for you until the new cards is out. Then, when you get the new DX10 card, keep the old card for troubleshooting and as a reserve.

This is also an o.k. card if you want something really cheap. Plays even with Geforce 6600GT.
It's an "open box" card so you wont get anything but the card. But you will just have to download a catalyst driver from ATI home and you are ready to run the card.

DX10 will be able to handle much bigger pixel clusters, than DX 9.0 and the smallest DX 10 card from Nvidia (Geforce) is said to have 24 Pixel Pipelines for ex, wich is as many pipes that 7900GT / GTX have today. The DX10 cards as such will have a different architechture.
So when the DX10 games comes, You will se a lot of nice "eyecandy" with a DX 10 card. That todays DX 9 cards cant handle. Also DX10 will support Windows Vista's 3d desk to the fullest.
I guess it will be a pretty wild battle between ATI and Nvida for the gamers approval, when those cards comes out. Maybe some nice prices on the DX10 cards and probably very nice price drops on the top DX 9.0 cards.
BTW, I know Crytec, wich whas involwed in the nice Shooter "Far Cry" is already working on a DX10 supported game, called Crysis. See screenie from the game below. Looks nice even on a DX 9.0 card.
The DX 10 cards is out late this year if Nvidia and ATI is true to their statements.

But as you listed the XFX 7900gt's, I would suggest Leadtek instead.
They make better cards than XFX.

If you want a very good card that is cheaper I would say X1800GTO. Beats the 7600GT. Sapphire makes the best one.

...omg i ahve no clue wat is going on i rmaed my gpu and it says they refunded it because they dont have nay instock or it is not on newegg any more then i just received an email with an invoice saying their sending me a new one or something this is mesed up so wat does this mean how do they know i havent bought a new gpu yet it was like a 5 day difference from wen they sent then.so should i like call then or something becuase if they send me a new one imm be so pissed because ive been saveing for my new upgrade.....

hmm i kept reading the email becuase i printend it out and at the top it says RMA TYPE: Refund but at botom it says refund amout 179 and amount paid 179 so idk i think their not sending me one beucase i checked my newegg acount and it doesnt say any hting about a new one it says -179 tho so ill just wait 4 or 5 days to see and imma avhe to get my old gpu back and wait till dx10 comes out becuase if i gte a dx9 card it will be worthless in like 6 months..so ill ahve to wait

Get the X850XT, I always recomend this to people who are awaiting DX10. Will hanle most games exelently.

hmm i have decide becuase wen dx10 comes out imma gte vista and a geforce 7900gtx =]and an ultra sx uv psu and freezone off ebay and a amd fx-60 off ebay =] hope fully ill ahve the money lol
