why is mcafee so slow!!!

first thing i notice with the newest version is that the number of running processes before installing security suite was 21, and after it was 37!!!!!!!!!!!wow.

i have had nothing but slow going and problems with outlook and ie since updating

after peeking at the mcafee website, i realizing my outlook and ie problems were all known bugs with the new security suite. all it said was they were working on a fix with no estimate of when it would be ready, so rather than wait indefinatly i just removed it and installed avast. wow what a difference, and only uses 5 processes. 6 when i open outlook.

takes about 3-5 sec to check three e-mail acounts and ie opens and loads pages almost instantly.

now i know that avast free is not a security suite, and that there is no aditional fire wall like mcafee, but why does mcafee need 16 processes to run? when avast needs only 6.

from what i can tell, and from what i have read avast is just as good at keeping viruses off your system as mcafee so what are all the extra processes and resources being used for with mcafee? and is it all necessary?

i would think that a co. as large as mcafee would try harder to make a better product that was faster and not a software bundle that self destructs the performance of your system.

Sorry my friend.

Both Norton and Mc Affe are the worst resourse hogs you can find on the market.

Get Avast free instead. Just as good as Mc Affe / Norton and much kinder to your pc.

And keep in mind, that not even the awarded anti virus programs can catch all bad stuff trying to sneak into your pc.

You should also run a couple of on line antivirus scanners like Trend Micro Housecall and Bit defender on line, once a month to be on the safe side.

You can try Ghostwall if you need a firewall and it doesn't take up a bunch of resources either. http://www.ghostsecurity.com/ghostwall/

I had McAfee and it sucked. Then I got avast and I couldn't be happier!

McAfee and Norton, are not only resource hogs. But fail to protect against modern threats. Most virus programmers, test their viri against, these products.

Avast seems to be the current best free option. If you don't mind paying Trend Micro makes a great AV.

Generally, get yourself an anti-spyware, anti-virus and a firewall.

Trend Micro packages all these together pretty cheap.

A new and very good firewall, that's free is Comodo. I have used it for some time now, and I think it's great.

Works well, together with Avast.
