Corel Linux slow to format

I have the version of Corel Linux 1.1 that is intended to be run on Intel PCs. I am trying to set it up on an old Pentium 2 and it has taken nearly an hour and 45 minutes so far to format 22% of an 80 gig drive. Is this normal, or should I expect other problems once it's finally done? I realize it's a much larger drive than was available when this distro came out, but REALLY!

Its probably the P2. I formated a 15 GB ext3 partition for Kubuntu in less than10 minutes, and thats on my slow drive. I would just create a small partition (mabye 5-10 GB) and format that, then format the rest after Corel is up. Also, how much RAM does that machine have? If it has 128 MB, you might want to considder putting in another 128 MB to speed things up.
I have never heard of the corel distribution, whats it like? And what is it based on?
