IE won't load pic/media player

WinXP Home, IE 6. About two weeks ago my IE started giving me a problem. If I open something like Mapquest, the placeholder is all that loads for the map; if I open a site with a MediaPlayer file (I do that a LOT, looking for MP files for work), it only loads the placeholder. If the option is available I can download the media file and it plays fine on my computer. But it won't load on the page.

I used to have a problem like this when I used dial-up and when I had inadequate memory. I'm using broadband and have plenty of memory now, so it shouldn't be doing this. It started suddenly, and I think some setting got changed inadvertently, but don't know what.

Any suggestions?

You could try Mozilla Firefox instead. It's a much better browser. And you can transfer your IE settings to it. FF, is just as easy to use as IE.

You might also try downloading IE 7 since you will need IE for updating and so on. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ie7/default.mspx It is better than IE 6, but not as good as Firefox.

Tools > Options > Advanced tab
Look around for something like "display embeded objects".
I agree though, Firefox is much better.

OK. followed the path, looked around for 'something like "display embedded objects"' and found nothing like that. Now what.
