MicrosoftWordproblem..

I’m having a problem when typing in Microsoft Word. Sometimes the letters I’ve typed appear on the screen a second or two late.
When I’m typing a new word the previous one is just appearing on the screen. I’m assuming this is caused by something running in the background. Can someone please tell me what causes it and what I can do to prevent it from happening?
Thanks in advance.

One possibility is that the computer is having trouble catching up because you only have 3/4 of a gigabyte of memory on your PC. What is your virtual memory setting? If you have it set for anything other than system managed size, it can effect many applications including Word too.
Knowing which version of Word you are using might help too. Also, are you using a wired or wireless keyboard? I have had problems with Office 2003 in spite of my 2 full gigabytes of memory and dual core processor when using a wireless keyboard. It's turned out to be a keyboard problem and not my software.

i seriously doubt it has to do with low memory. i ran office 2003 programs all day on a 550mhz p3 with only 384 mb and winxp with mcaffe running in the background. i have however noticed that most systems with less than a gig of memory have a hard time doing anything while windows is updating.
are you using microsoft update or windows update?
i ask because when using microsoft update instead of windows update i have had problems with the process svchost.exe sucking up all the cpu %. check your task manager and see what processes are doing what when you have the problem again

I agree, RAM is not the problem. Something like Windows Update or even a virus scan can eat up your CPU usage, so check in task manager. svchost is the infamous problem with high CPU usage, and its often caused by a virus, so run some scans.
