Yo bro! here's one that is both da budget and da bomb.

This is very budget, price wise. But still a good lappy. No dual core as the one above, and 2X 256mb DDR RAM. She can always swap one of the 256mb sticks for a 512mb later on if she feels the need.

Another alternative is to order something you need for yourself in order to get onto Tiger Direct's mailing list. If she doesn't mind a refurb instead of new, she might be able to find things in the catalogs that aren't always available on the website. Sometimes the offers in the catalog are "cover offer only" - meaning they can't be ordered online and have to be ordered at the 1-800 number.

i ahve the catolog and th mail thing also i saw in another post that acer laptops need a cooling sheet or something like that

Most lappy's and notebooks benefits from using a cooling pad. That's not Acer specific in any way. But I guess if you have a decently normal room temperature in the winter (18 to 22C+). You wont at least not need any cooling pad that time of year.

Acers with AMDs are famous for overheating. Still, they are good. This would be good basic laptop that would do the job, and can be upgraded easily.

I showed my sister the laptops and he said she will buy them after she pays her depts but rght now she has a compact 15" that is running at 59oC =O.So maybe she doesnt need a laptop maybe it is just over heating so is this colling pad good for her laptop and is it external ot internal?

It's probably the old usual problem with lappys. It's getting too hot. The Bytecc is the best pad. And she just puts it under her lappy.

I agree 100%. That cooling pad saved my laptop.
Laptop CPUs normally run 5 - 10 degrees warmer than desktops. But that is still a little high. Using the cooling pad alone will drop the temperature 5 - 10 degrees, and you can go even further and take off one of the bottom pannels if one is over the CPU. But that is extra, and more for DTR laptops that aren't taken on travels much.
Having a good room temperature will also help a lot. It will make the cooling pad blow in cool air. And if you have the option to set the internal fan to always on the BIOS, do that. It will push air out of the laptop and work with the cooling pad.
Why was your sister considdering a new laptop? Perhaps an upgrade would do the trick.

ya that was what i was thinking an upgrade i was gonna get her 512mb more ram

Laptops only have 2 RAM slots, so I would just get 2 x 512 MB and sell the current stick(s) or keep them for troubleshooting purposes.
Posted by: shadysoldier
why not keep the 256 and buy another 512?

You could, but they wouldn't run in dual channel and they will slow to the speeds and timings of the slowest stick. I just find it easier to pop in two new sticks.
