Depending on windows disk cleanup to clean out hard drive clutter is mediocre at best. Enter CCleaner. This utility goes above and beyond most normal cleaners and rivals some commercial cleaning programs. It also comes with a registry cleaner with optional backup. A truly handy utility.
CCleaner (Crap Cleaner) is a freeware system optimization and privacy tool. It removes unused and temporary files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster, more efficiently and giving you more hard disk space. The best part is that it's fast! (normally taking less that a second to run) and Free.
Cleans the following:
* Internet Explorer Cache, History, Cookies, Index.dat.
* Recycle Bin, Temporary files and Log files.
* Recently opened URLs and files.
* Third-party application temp files and recent file lists (MRUs).
Including: Firefox, Opera, Media Player, eMule, Kazaa, Google Toolbar, Netscape, Office XP, Nero, Adobe Acrobat, WinRAR, WinAce, WinZip and more...
* Advanced Registry scanner and cleaner to remove unused and old entries.
Including File Extensions, ActiveX Controls, ClassIDs, ProgIDs, Uninstallers, Shared DLLs, Fonts, Help Files, Application Paths, Icons, Invalid Shortcuts and more... Backup for registry clean.
* Windows Startup tool.

This program cleaned out about 3 GB's of junk on my computer including hotfix uninstallers and other clutter. Really, who ever uninstalls a hotfix anyway?
The registry cleaner seems to be really good as well. Which surprises me for a freeware product.

I have never been a fan of automated cleaners. I just dont trust them. What does this do that Spybot and HiJackThis do not?

I have used this utility for a while on one of my machines & I find that it works very well. I am not a huge fan of auto cleaners, but this works well for a freebee.
This is not an alternative to spybot or hijackthis. It is for cleaning out temporary files etc & does a little bit of reg cleaning. Totally different type of utility to the above. Don't poo poo it until you have tried it & know what it does.

kestrel1, what I am talking about is:
What does this program do that I cannot do with Spybot and Hijackthis?
Spybot has a Startup modifier, Reg cleaner, Uninstall info, Log files, etc. Although I do it manually with Spybot and Hijackthis, what does this program do that I cannot do with those two?
That is my question.

It's always good to have more than one way of checking the same thing, just in case.

I wasn't aware CCleaner had anything to do with a spyware sweeping program. CCleaner is for cleaning out temporary files, leftover install files, and other ilk. If spysbot does this then great. But some of us don't need spyware scanners.

:\
I didnt mean for this to turn into a debate/argument. Yes Ion, Spybot can do most of that. My point in being so persistent to this is that at my job, efficiency is top priority, and I have yet to find a program better or more efficient than Spybot and Hijackthis. All I am asking is, ones who have used the program, can you explain to me an advantage of using this program?
And to not be hypocritical, yes I am downloading and installing this as we speak.
Thanks for the help guys. ^_^
Edit: After installing and running it. I like it, first off, it is a very small .exe and installed wonderfully. No resource hog, fast scanning and cleaning. For me it removed two main things that not many others get. I did have alot of log file in my Windows and System32 directories. As well, I am never installing a Symantec program again, I use Mcafee, and have for years. After installing Norton Ghost a few weeks back for an emergency recovery session apparently it left over 200 reg entries in my system. Glad this program caught those. Overall, yes, it is a nice add to anyones arsenal.

I didn't know spybot did all that extra stuff. Last time I used it was a couple years ago and I don't remember it having such features.
I too was surprised at the quality of this program. Especially considering its price. Or lack of.

At least you have now tried it & like it. I have found it to work very well, glad you now like it.
