hey, my friend wants to get rid of his old ati 9550 and get something a little more up to date. I helped him try to find what fits his budget and his needs. I found this at virtually the only place he can buy it from, since his parents are'nt willing to buy stuff online.
so, this is what i found for him.

im just wondering if you guys have heard of any problems with that card, or if you know of anything in the same price range (max $250 canadian after tax) but
or i was also thinkin, maybe he should save up for a new mobo thats pci-e? if that could be done for relatively cheap that would be interestin, but unfortuantely we are both highschool students, and we aren't exactly rollin in money :P
so yea, just your opinions, if you think its a good buy, or if he should find something else?
thanks in advance, you guys are great
oh and i found a couple other, just wondering if you guys chould tell me if any if better than the other?

I would'nt buy the 6800XT, as this is made on a 6800 core that did'nt made the grade for beeing hooked up to a real 6800. And it's 8 pixel pipes instead of a normal 6800 "vanilla", wich have 12 pipes. So he would be better off with a 6600GT instead, as it's cheaper and practically the same card. If he want a 6800? get a vanilla or 6800GS.
HIS ICEQ is a great 1600 card. HIS always have very good cooling. As they use Arctic Coolings VGA cooler as stock cooling.
But the fastest in the bunch is the 7600GT.
Edit.
A couple of other cards in the site that you linked to is the X800XT with 16 pixel pipelines. The more pipes, the higher quality settings it will be able to handle without stuttering etc.
The X800XT is a great card.
The X850Pro is also a very nice card.
If I would rank those cards:
X800XT
7600GT Why I rank the 7600GT over the X850 Pro, is that it's faster and have support for HDR, Shader 3.0. But overclock the X850 Pro and as HDR is'nt supported in many games yet (unfortunatly) I would say they are pretty even.
X850Pro
7600GS
X1600
6800XT
If he later on wanna make the jump to PCI E cheaper, get this mobo.

Then he can use the AGP videocard for a while, until he feels he can afford a PCI E dito. I 've heard some good stuff about this board. The only gripe is, that it just can take a moderate overclocking.
Here is a nice CPU for that mobo:

Probably your best bet for AGP But if you go PCIe:

The 7600GT you listed is nice, but its PCIe. Its probably equal to the X850XT PE.

That's the thing with massproduced stuff. Sometimes you have a strike of bad luck and get a bad card for ex. Does'nt nessisairily means the card brand or version is bad quality though.

i got 2 defected card and i think the one i ahve now might be defected

Used both of those card on your Asus mobo? Then it could be one of those little pecularitys the A8N series mobos have, that gives you videocard problems. Have you tried any of those cards in another pc?

those oter gpus were on my a8v mobo and i had no problem wen i used my old 9600

I thought you said before, that the card you have now might be "defect in some way"?
Posted by: shadysoldier
