standby mode

damn! normally, I put my laptop in standby whenever i dont use it. i was on holidays for a week and now, my standby mode is not highlighted when i click shutdown. it's like its not available. checked everything in power options but nothing there... also, when I close the lid of my pc, then it's still on..
help please! thanks!

its XP but the options i have would only be DO NOTHING (when i close the lid of my computer). hmm... fishy!

Then it could be settings in your Laptops BIOS. If you are comfortable, go there and check the Power Saving options. They might have somehow gotten reset.
