Networked with a Firewall = Problems!!
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

This is so anoying.. i cant make servers.. and im not sure if its because im networked off a cable modem, from my moms computer, to the computer in my room, or because of a fire wall..
Im pretty sure i deleted my firewall, but since my mom is my networker to my cable modem.. if she has a firewall on her computer, would that also not allow me to make them because she is the computer that holds the main hub for the network cablemodem?

Let me see if I get this right. Your mom's PC is hooked to the cable modem and then your hooked to hers?
First:
Are you hooked up through a hub?
Second:
Does she have firewall software installed on her system?
Third:
How many ips does your Cable ISP give you? Most of the time you have to pay for extra IPs through cable. And most cable companies won't let you run services with cable. (IE web server, game servers)
Fourth:
I'm assuming this is an external internet CS server?

If you are running through a hub you need to dig up your manuel and look for the portion that regards "Ports forwarding." What the problem is when people connect to your cable address the router doesn't know which computer to send the data to. So you must tell it that.
Once get to the port forwarding section you need to open up port 27015 and direct it to what ever IP your computer is which usually begins with 198.x.x.x
To find the ip of the specific computer run winipcfg under the 'run' command in the start menu.

NDIS Driver for USB 10-Base... ect..
When i drop it down to there it gives me an IP adress...
Do i drop it down to that and click ok?

Okay what is the first number of your ip, don't tell any more. Just the first number like
198.x.x.x
or
64.x.x.x etc.

Delux, does your mom's computer have two NICs? Are you using a hub?
What firewall software are you using? When you create a game she should get a pop-up on her computer asking if port so and so can access the internet. You need to let that port access the internet (port 27015).
Post back.

how do i disable the firewall settings on my router?
Posted by: fibbi
you have to set your router to make the specfic computer you want to have the firewall settings disabled on be a DMZ (De-Militarized Zone).
On a linksys, you go to your web browser,
type in 192.168.1.1, when it asks you for a username and password, the default is no username and "admin" as the password.
Then Go to advanced settings, DMZ host, and type in the LAN IP of the computer you want to be free from firewall restricionts.
