routers and digital phone technology

A friend has a cable internet connection combined with digital TV and digital PHONE.
Trying to hook second computer to the internet connection via router; everything I can find out so far says that routers are incompatable with digital phone technology.
The cable company is no help. Can anyone confirm that it won't work OR provide a workaround?

This depends on a few things. Which cable company do you have? Secondly, your phone works fine, correct? You need to make sure you have adequate speed to handle an Internet connection and VoIP. Atleast 512Kbps download is recommended.
Is it a Arris VoIP box? And as well, what kind of router?

It is not true. My friend has the All In One Package from Time Warner and she has 3 computers hooked to the internet just fine. I have a Road Runner connection and a Linksys broadband router with Vonage VOIP connected to it and it works better than my DSL did. Where have you been reading this garbage?
