ok so i'm looking for some help or suggestions to what this problem is and how to fix it. three days ago, my computer slowed way down to the point it takes like five minutes to load yahoo home page. i did a system restore and it seemed to fix it. very next morning the same thing happend again. i'm not sure but it seems to take effect when my cp loads window's updates. it also seems to maybe have something to do with my screensaver since after screensaver pops up it does'nt close fast and everything starts slowing down. i restore again and everything seems to be fine so i run virus scan with avg. it shows nothing. then i ran a spyware scan with spybot, still nothing. i have also ran a few more free scans from different companys but nothing seems to show up. i have already had to restore three times today each one after updates or screensaver poped up. anyone have any ideas or suggestions. thanks for your help.

kill the screensaver permanently, install all updates and reboot.

I know for a fact that I have told you a couple of times when you've mentioned it, that it is bad. My suggestion is to get rid of that crap while you can and get seom proper antivurs software on your comp.

I agree with rabidgecko. I tried Spyware doc. once. And if it is a "doctor"? Well, I would rather call it "Spyware Shaman" instead. And probably high on some strange mushroom. As it messed up Windows completely for me.
There are some good antispys that's free out there. AdAware, Spybot and Windows Defender for ex.
But start with Redwench suggestions.

ok thanks for the help everyone. i tried everything suggested and never found any viruses or spyware. everything seemed to be ok for a while then things started slowing down again. i had a few windows that wouldn't close so i ctrl alt del to the task manager and looked at the processes. for some reason i had two google desktop managers running. one showing no processes and using about 3,000k and the other was using 95-99 processes and about 150,000k to 260,000k. i deleted both and things seem to be running fine now. does anyone have any idea what the problem was or why it would do that. would it be safe to try and download google desktop again.

I would avoid Google desktop or any other desktop that is'nt Windows default. As it will take up a lot of resources from the videocard and ram for ex.
It could be a temporary bug or registry problem wich made your desk go "dual channel" lol. Hard to say really.

You're welcome.

spyware doctor not only removes that pesky spyware, it installs new and improved spyware on your computer.

You might try going to www.comodo.com and downloading their antivirus beta.
I save new apps to a directory folder marked "setup files" and then run them from there. That way if a new antiviryl program or firewall slows things down I can always go back to the previous 1 I have used. I took goranpaa's suggestion and tried out Comodo firewall. It seems to have problems with Office 2007 Beta, so I kept the setup file for it for future use if the problems are fixed in the Office 2007 official release and went back to Ghostwall. If you don't use beta editions of anything then I would suggest Comodo firewall as well. Also, if you belong to any consumer research groups like Consumer Input, E-Trends, or A.C. Nielsen (wish I were related!) their software may slow down your system and show up as spyware in AdAware & Spybot S&D.
