budget is 300.
ok i all ready have the ram 512 cucial (pc 3200) and the gpu agp ati 9600 256mbs and i cna get a midtower case for free.
Posted by: shadysoldier
I was thinking
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16827152076
and i found a godly deal he will love this
http://www.newegg.com/product/Produ...N82E16819103527
it also comes with a hdd
and one of the only agp mobos i could find
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...7084&CatId=1569
comes out to about 270$
Posted by: goranpaa
Yeah, that sounds like a good deal. Othervice, this mobo should make the jump over to PCI E easy as it have both AGP and PCI E slots for the videocard. So later on, when your friend have the funds. He / she just smack a 7600GT or 7900GS PCI E in there and ta daaah!
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...82E16813157081R
I know this mobo works well with both AGP and PCI E videocards, thanks to the ULI chipset.
Newegg is practically giving it away for free nowadays.
Just a couple of months back, it whas 95 bucks.
Posted by: shadysoldier
holy crap i think i just pissed my self. That is the best deal i ever seen also i need a psu.
Posted by: shadysoldier
Also , since it is oem does it come witht he plate and the manual and the ide cables?
Posted by: goranpaa
This psu maybe?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16817182010
A guy here bought it a while ago, and he seems to like it very much.
As for the OEM. I'm not sure what's included. Contact the customer service at newegg and ask. They should know. As for cables, maybe he can use the ones from his old box? Othervice SATA cables and such is cheap. The only slight prob, could be the plate ( The I/O shield) for the ports at the back of the case if it is'nt included?
But on the other hand it sits at the back of the case. So you dont see it very often anyways.
It could still be worth it, as he does'nt need a new mobo, when it's time for PCI E.
And with the arrival of the DX10 cards and Vista soon...well. Also both ATI and Nvidia have announced it wont be any more agp versions of the upcoming cards.
And furthermore, the PCI E videocards is cheaper than the AGP dito.

I see.Ill try to do that tomarow and i love the idea for the mobo.It kinda makes me happy that it si such a good deal.(i might buy thos efor my bro too.Well i ahve to do my homework and i haven't even started.

I actually read a couple of professional reviews on the Asrock mobo's today. And they seem to be nice. The one you linked to, have a more extensive BIOS and the new ULI chipset.
So even if the first one did dissapear. You will get a cheap mobo with this too.

Posted by: goranpaa
I have no idea how this psu really is quality vice. But 14 people who bought it seems to like it.

Posted by: shadysoldier

it is agp and pci too.hmm im not sure becuase it says xgp what ever that is.
Posted by: goranpaa
I'm sorry if I dissapoint you here. But Biostar mobo's aint known for the best reability.
Posted by: shadysoldier
I see imma wait 1-2 more days and check up on the open box then order if i dont find a cheaper one.
Posted by: matt.modica
I wouldn't go for any of those brands of PSUs. The lesser quality ones will die, and take the whole computer with them. Get one from a reputable brand, like Antec, Enermax, Forton, Silverstone, OCZ, or Sparkle.

those are way too damn expensive.
Posted by: shadysoldier
i need one between 1-50$
Posted by: shadysoldier
any good?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...82E16813135212R
Posted by: goranpaa
As long as you are running a single videocard, and not any of the more power thirstiest ones this will do.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16817153006
Have in mind it's 20 pin ATX
Posted by: shadysoldier
also what kind of cables will i need to hook this up?
http://www.newegg.com/product/Produ...N82E16822148111
Posted by: goranpaa
This.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16812104058
Posted by: shadysoldier
hmm sweet i have one of those psu's , the thermal take one hmm hopefully it works because last time i try it on my dads computer useing a 20 to 24 pin connector it didnt work and the guy at the store said its not the right type for my dads mobo.
Posted by: shadysoldier
also i was looking and noticed that the board requires 24 pins psu...wait nvm i dont know it has a yellow sticker clossing out 4 pins. Also, what the hell is a agp express lol and will it work with a agp 4x/8x
Posted by: goranpaa
AGP Express is ECS, way to make a hybrid between AGP and PCI E 16X graphic slot. From what I have read in tests it's not working that well. If I where you, I would stay with the Asrock mobo you
picked before. This really works with both flavours of graphic slots.
Posted by: shadysoldier
okay.
Posted by: shadysoldier
hmm and i can try my psu on it and if that dont work then i cna always go to microcenter and get one for a good price that is tested but is 420 enough for a fx-55?
Posted by: goranpaa
The FX 55 will manage. It depends more on what videocard and other stuff you will hook up also to that psu? I may not wanna hook a GF 7950 X2 or X1900XT or XTX to that psu. But a 7600GT or 7900GS will work for ex.
Posted by: shadysoldier
im hooking up a 9600(old card but works great), a fx-55, a 250 gig sata hdd, a dvd/cd combo burner, that asrock mobo , 2 fans ,cpu cooler.I think that is all
also should i get http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16819103527
or
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16819103526
with a custom cpu cooler
Posted by: goranpaa
If you're not making any overclocking experiments? Then get the retail FX 55.
But it doest hurt to add some Artic Silver Ceramique paste. It willl give you some degrees cooler running cpu when the paste have settled in about 2 to 3 weeks.

Posted by: shadysoldier
i have a spare i can sell to my freind for very cheap.
Posted by: shadysoldier
im still confused about if i need a 24 pin converter.
Posted by: goranpaa
If you are still talking about the ASRock 939Dual-VSTA Socket 939 ULi ?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16813157097
It's 20 pin ATX. So it depends on what psu you are going to use?
Posted by: shadysoldier
damn lmao I was looking at the wrong mobo.kk
Posted by: pdnielsen
Since Halloween is coming up, I just have to ask. Is that a reversal of the "ie" in the word "friend "or is it a made up word for a friend who's a freak therefore a "freend."
Posted by: shadysoldier
ah damn i didn't notice that I before E except after C.
Posted by: pdnielsen
I just had to type the question in order to make this thread longer! It's okay. Even Charles Swabb is dyslexic you know. And he founded the first discount brokerage successfully in spite of it.

Imma sell him my brand new heat sink and my old psu and i already got him ram and a gpu and i can get him a case from micro cneter for 10$.
Posted by: goranpaa
Seems to be a nice rig.
Posted by: shadysoldier
also are those items conpadible with vista?plz hurry freind is bout be over to order.
Posted by: goranpaa
Yeah, the cpu and mobo should'nt have any problems with Vista as they are 64 bit OS compatible.
Posted by: shadysoldier
kk ty. gotta call newegg and see if the mobo comes with manual and driver disc and I/o plate or w/e it is called comes with it because it being OEM.Sorry for the misspelling trying to type fast because hes gonna be here soon.
Posted by: goranpaa
#Sorry for the misspelling trying to type fast because hes gonna be here soon.#
No problems. That happends to me too, now and then when I'm in a hurry.
Posted by: shadysoldier
damn i called newegg and they said it very rarly comes with accesories.damn
hmmm imma see if i can buy a i/o plate and just dl manual and drivers off the web site.
Posted by: goranpaa
The manual, chipset driver and utilitys you should be able to pick up here:
http://www.asrock.com/product/939Dual-SATA2.htm
Just make sure you have adobe acrobat installed for the PDF manual.
If you have'nt?
http://www.download.com/3000-2378-10000062.html
The "I/O shileld" is'nt nesissary as I said before. It's more or less just make up.
And as you wont see the back of the case that often. You can probably live without it.
Posted by: shadysoldier
hmm i think i got him to get an aleinware labby it had a free geforce 7600 256mb upgrade
