Pressure Forces Microsoft to Change Vista Licensing

Looks like the power users have more pull than I thought. Considering they make a very small percentage of users. Most will get Vista preinstalled on a new computer.
Customer concerns over changes to Windows Vista licensing that would limit a transfer of the license to only one machine have moved Microsoft to revise the operating system licensing policy.
Microsoft said today it has changed the retail license terms for Vista so that customers now may uninstall the OS from one machine and install it on another as many times as they want. The new terms do away with limitations on the number of new devices to which the license can be transferred.
However, to continue the discouragement of piracy, Microsoft has worded the license so that it is clear that users cannot "share this license between devices."
You can read the full report here.

wow gay i was reading that read me file before i installed xp and it said limited for only 2 computers only.So i installed it on my dads comp.So would i be able to do the same with vista-retail/upgrade , because if not that would be really gay , because usually me and my dad buy a program then split the price. Also , im not going to pay like 200$ for a new os and only use it on my comp and not my dads.

However you look at it, you are not allowed to install any MS OS on more that one machine without having a separate licence for each machine. I dunno where you read that you can install on two computers Shady, but you need to get reading glasses.

like anyone seriously cares about licenses anyways.

Actually there are several releases of XP out there that did specify that the OS could be used on 2 machines. There is also what's called a "multi-user" license for 5 machines or even more.

there will most likely be multi licenses available for vista especially since companies need the mult licenses.

Yup. The minimum "open" license is for up to 250 computers.
