ok i read in the paper about an envelope stuffing job... they pay you like 1400-2800$ every week to stuff 350-700 envelopes a day. these jobs have been around for a while my mom tells me. but if they sound this damn good then why dont everyone do it? there gotta be a catch right? oh btw it says they pay for the envelopes/stamps/circulars(they send um all to you for free) so whats the deal? anyone ever done it or know of people who done it? i sent a letter to two different ones... i got responces today... they want like 40$ for start-up costs or some shit... i got the 40$ but i wanna know if yall think im getting shit pulled over on me or what?

edit: they also say its a one time fee and money back guarantee

How about you get a plan down. A normal career-oriented game-plan for what to do in your adult life.

This is like the 4th get-rich-quick scheme thread you've started? If you want to really be happy with yourself and have any discernable amount of pride in what you do, get down a plan with either education or prospects for a long-term job you want. I don't mean half-ass it, I mean really think hard about it. What do you want to do with yourself. All the get-rich schemes are all worthless wastes of time.

And like you said "but if they sound so damn good then why doesn't everyone else do it?" of course there's a catch. What you could do is research it YOURSELF.

Go for a walk, a run, drive around, medidate, whatever you do. Really think about your life here and ask yourself if the direction you're going in now is one you're proud of, or more importantly, a direction takes you somewhere, rather than sinking right into the ocean in a few years.

one of these days you just might learn that there are dishonest, bad people in the world who want money and dont care who they screw over. have you ever worked at a legitimate job that asked you for money first? no? thats because its a goddamn scam you idiot

you know what, forget it. go for it, sounds like a GREAT OPRAHTUNTY for you to make a lot of money. they might even know where you can find some 20k houses too!

Yeah there's a catch. The catch is that you have to spend money of your own to make copies of the bogus scam letter they send you and then pay for the envelopes, addresses from a mass mailing address provider, and postage and then realize you just blew $40 or $50 of your own on top of the $40 you were foolish enough to send them. There really is only 1 guarantee. They will change their address once they have a certain amount of money from people who bought into it. A certain phrase from PT Barnum comes to mind: "there's a sucker born every minute." If you really believe it, then I'd be glad to sell you a certain bridge in the burroughs of New York.

Thee, repeat after me: "Get rich quick schemes" do not make the people who fall for them rich. You will not become rich by participating in one of these things. It will not happen.

FROM THE DESK OF.. DR AMIRI BABO
BILL AND EXCHANGE MANAGER
FOREIGN REMITTANCE DEPT.
BANK OF AFRICA(B.O.A)
OUAGADOUGOU, BURKINA FASO

Dear theemon,

I am the manager of bill and exchange at the foreign remittance department BANK OF AFRICA .

In my department we discovered an abandoned sum of U.S$25M US dollars (Twenty five Million US dollars) in an account that belongs to one of our foreign customer who died along with his entire family in November 2002 in a plane crash.

Since we got information about his death, we have been expecting his next if kin to come over and claim his money because we cannot release it unless somebody applies for it as next of kin or relation to the deceased as indicated in our banking guidlines and laws but unfortunately we learnt that all his supposed next of kin or relation died alongside with him at the plane crash leaving nobody behind for the claim.

It is therefore upon this discovery that I now decided to make this business proposal to you so that the money will be released to you as the next of kin or relation to the deceased for safety and subsequent disbursement since nobody is coming for it and we don't want this money to go into the bank treasury as unclaimed bill.

The banking law and guidline here stipulates that if such money remained unclaimed after four years, the money will be transfered into the bank treasury as unclaimed bill. The request of foreigner as next of kin in this business is occassioned by the fact that the customer was a foreigner and a Burkinabe cannot stand as next of kin to a foreigner.

I propose that 30% of this money will be for you as my foreign partner, in respect to the provision of a foreign account, 10% will be set aside for expenses incured during the business and 60% would be for me. Thereafter I will visit your country for disbursement according to the percentages indicated.

Therefore, to enable the immediate transfer of this fund to you as arranged, you must apply first to the bank as relation or next of kin of the deceased indicating your bank name, your bank account number, your private telephone and fax number for easy and effective communication and location wherein the money will be remitted.

Upon receipt of your reply, I will send to you by e-mail a text of the application which you'll fill in and send to the bank's email address.. I will not fail to bring to your notice that this transaction is hitch-free and that you should not entertain any atom of fear as all required arrangements have been made for the transfer.

You should contact me immediately as soon as you receive this letter for further clearifications.

Yours faithfully,
. DR AMIRI BABO

Get a second job.

Posted by: demon_horse

I started out in a similar job... wasn't envelope stuffing but it was that kinda level... through an agency too. I was sifting through medical records though, throwing away ones that were over 20 years old as they were no longer legally required to be kept.

When they say they pay for postage they are talking about if anyone else falls for the same scheme and sends you money and you take the money out of that. They don't pay the postage for you up front. I know this because I have known 2 or 3 other people who took them up on the exact same offer. It is now 20 years later and they still have not been reimbursed even the first $1. When your mother says they have been around for years, she is correct. It is a classic scheme that has been around almost as long as there have been newspapers and newsletters. If you are taking 18 credit hours and working 12 hours on top of that you might want to devote what extra time you have on your hands to studying and to a young woman (or to studying a young woman?) and leave the get rich schemes to someone who wasn't smart enough to get into college!

You have a better chance of getting something to make money in your spare time if you just network with the people at your full time job. I bet someone needs something - help with a computer and/or repair, babysitting - that sort of thing. Going to be easier than stuffing envelopes =p

I hear there's a huge market for rocks on ebay. Apparently, rich people with fish tanks can't find any rocks anywhere.

Posted by: pdnielsen

You can't just use any old gravel you find on the ground in fish tanks. You have to be careful not to use any kind that will poison the fish and it's preferable to use ones of all one size. Still, to spend mega bucks on safe ones does seem rediculous. I paid all of $3 for the gravel at the bottom of my aquarium. Thank goodness for Walmart and Kmart.
