Who plays World of Warcraft? What server are you on? I'm in a fairly casual Alliance guild on Dark Iron ("I Wish I Could Quit You"). If anyone wants to roll Alliance on Dark Iron, hit me (I play as Ashtarte) up for a guild inv. We're not open-invite or "actively recruiting!!!!!" or anything, though, so if you want in tell me who you are on OTS and I'll get an officer to send you an invite.

Ah, yes. Our adventures.
We've had our highs, lows, and in-betweens. Some of them causing us to fly off it and just bail.
Dealing with Warchiefs or GMs, we always get the job done.

Rylaie on Ner'Zhul ... 55 Alliance mage. Haven't touched her in awhile though (this sounds bad OOC as well). I'm leveling a 20 priest right now whenever I'm not playing DotA or doing work.
Also have a 31 Alliance Druid on Spirestone and a 20 Horde Warrior on Hyjal. My lame attempts at starting toons on servers some of my friends play in.
It would be so awesome if WoW made these cross-server portals that you could use. I think if done with proper restrictions (level, items, pvp vs pve, etc.) it would be awesome. Like if you could basically travel to a different server and play with your friends on that server... with no access to their AH or no ability to Trade or something... at least then you can go questing or leveling in your friends even if your "home bases" are different.

I've seen other people with similar UIs. What is the benefit of having two huge black bars on the top and bottom of your screen?

I play on a large resolution and the bars give a widescreen effect. because I play as a healer 90% of the time, being able to see the full screen isn't that important and I can place my healing bars and decursive in the black areas so they can be seen better.

In raids I turn off title/guild. I'm a member of Emerald Dragons on Elune, but that's a guild alliance. With Majesty lead, and the rest are made up of us, Chamber of Shaolin, and some other guild that has since been kicked from the alliance.

Nice! Last month we did a guild run for MC, but we only got as far as Magmadar, coz we lacked healers during that trip (we tried PuGs before but the teamwork just ain't as good). We'll try again this December and we'll definitely one-shot him with our current lineup and prance all the way to Rag... for the horde!

Right now I'm working to get Axdrake his Rhok'Delar Epic hunter bow. I've killed 2/4 of the demons for it. I want to get it before TBC comes out.

Jesus christ, that was, by far, the most exhilirating, intense, and rewarding experience of my 2 year WoW history.
Me and taco were in a Pug, but it worked because we all had great chemistry, coordination, were tolerant that I disappeared for 45min after we failed to do it the first time (This group nailed it on the 2nd try), and most importantly, listened to me coaching them for 10 minutes on how to do this.
Me and taco read up a lot about how this is done and on execution had it down after just two tries. Man, it was great.
My heart was racing the entire time after Ramstein after the two dozen Ogre Spewers section of the Gauntlet at the end. We even ****ed up a pull after A'rub and had to fight two more mob groups than we had to, and still managed to kill the baron with exactly 6 seconds left. I tried to SS it but was a fraction of a second late.

you don't have to kill the baron in 45 minutes, you only have to start the fight before the timer ends
I remember being the only healer through those runs when tier .5 just came out. that was before echoes of lordaeron too :O

There's no such thing as fully jumping on, considering you can get off anytime.
WoW is definitely worth playing, if even only for a month or two, just for the sake of exploring the world. (Though you won't be able to get around to many places in the first 10-20 levels... not that that stopped me from trying. I went all the way over to Kalimdor when my Human mage was only level 15 or so.)

Mages make everything fun, assuming you love doing damage. I thoroughly enjoy MC nowadays, whereas on my druid it was tedious and boring and frustrating.

Yeah, I was a healer. I was good at it, but healers are easy to blame for wipes and that was always frustrating.
I think I would have been just as bored with a damage class as well, though. It's more repetitive and less involved than even healing, I think. I should have rolled a warrior from the beginning.

A fire mage might have some utility with a few pulls in BWL where the mobs are weak to one randomly selected element. But even if you get a fire weak mob, being specced in fire won't help the raid bring it down any faster when your white-hit fireball will smack it for 2500 damage.

Unless a mob is outright immune to fire, I can outdamage an ice mage. And even then, I can do almost as much damage with ice cause I have most of the damage talents for ice. The only thing I don't have is winter chill -- but that doesn't matter, cause one of the other ice mages will be laying that down.
But a fire weak mob will definitely go down faster when I end up with rolling ignites in excess of 1000 per tick. And if they are actively weak... well, my fireball crits near 2500 by default with a warlock around. If they are weak? Oh man, can't wait to see that.

Golemagg, fire elementals, and Rags are the only mobs in MC that resist (or are immune) so much that I do less damage than an ice mage, even using firespells. The resistances of MC mobs are highly exaggerated.

Make sure you grab yourself a wand off the AH as early as you can afford to (or borrow gold from someone you know on the server to do it). Lesser/Greater Magic Wands do awesome DPS at low levels.
They really need to make some cross-server portal system in WoW. But I guess it doesn't matter since I'm on Alliance and most of you are Horde.

Because rolling ignites can boost their damage into insane amounts when they all start critting at the same time (something that will be fixed in BC). I think my Arcane Power/Frost build should be able to outdamage you (with equal gear) in MC. ZG/AQ(20/40) would be a different story though.
I guess in the end it doesn't really matter much. I tried both frost and fire. I didn't really like fire and I just love frost, so that's what I'll keep using. To each his own.

We have a few Arcane Power / Frost build mages. They don't come close to my DPS. And sometimes we have a fire mage or two. That day we didn't, it was all me.
Not sure what the priest comment is about though. We usually only have 2-3 priests.

What kind of build is your fire mage?
I started one a few days ago and just hit 15 last night, but haven't decided about where I want to start sticking stuff.
So far I'm preferring the mage over the hunter I was playing.

You don't need Elemental Precision or Arcane Subtlety for PvE - the justification for this is in the last paragraph (I only put points into Arcane Subtlety after I ran out of skills to put into my Frost tree... however, now with the new patch released, I've respecced to pure Frost until I hit 60).
I'd put those points into Incinerate and Imp. Fire Blast instead. That leaves one point to put anywhere... what an odd tree.
Also, a general tip about leveling and grinding. While it's more "fun" to take on mobs that are a few levels above you or even mobs of your own level, it's a lot faster and more efficient to grind with monsters that are at least a couple levels below you. I personally recommend following Jame's leveling guides - I use them myself and they allow for pretty fast leveling while still allowing you to partake in the most interesting parts of the game content.

For the most part when grinding I stick to stuff thats at or below my level.
I'm still just plunking stuff in my fire tree and haven't added in the other trees yet, that was just the build I came up with that at least had some resistance drop.

No matter what you do you'll pretty much be respeccing at 60 anyway, either for PVP or for raiding. For now, the focus is primarily to max your damage output and mana efficiency, because that's what grinding is essentially all about.
Crit % >>> Resistances. I don't remember the last time my spells got resisted by a mob I was hitting... but every time it happens it always seems to be on Frost Nova. ><

Oh man... so I basically just went from 55 to 58 over the past couple days... quests that give 6K experience each is definitely the way to go if you want to get to 60 fast. My month's worth of rest lasted me all the way through... I'm still rested for about another couple bubbles.
And my 3-level drive ended on quite a high note... I was questing in Felwood at the crater near Irontree (Toxic Horros quest + the Treant named Arei quest)... was pretty much down to a couple hundred mana when a level 60 Hunter pops out of nowhere. I sheep him and manage to get away (meanwhile a couple mobs have aggroed onto him), bandage and evocate, and ran back and killed him. Since I had to do quests around the area, I figured I should keep an eye on his corpse while I killed the Toxic Horrors.
The first time around he res'd right after I shot my first frostbolt at a mob. I immediately turned around and killed him again, and then proceeded to kill the mob I had pulled. At this point I was like "Screw it, I'm just gonna sit here and watch since I have nothing better to do." Several minutes later, he revives again right at where his corpse was (what an idiot). I kill him again.
Finally, he gets a clue and manages to revive somewhere nearby (and shadowmelded maybe? I actually don't know because the moment I saw his corpse disappear I looked all over but couldn't find him). I figured he must have resurrected to the graveyard, but still proceed cautiously. Sure enough, as soon as I start pulling a mob, his pet boar comes chasing after me. This time, he and his pet have some buff (one that makes him look really red) that makes me unable to Frost Nova him OR his pet for 3 times in a row (does anyone know what it might be?). He also managed to get a concussive shot off on me, so I'm not in good shape.
At the last minute, I manage to pot, polymorph, and finally Freeze his pet... and run away with 6 hp left. I get on my horse immediately... go towards a dead end (stupid me ><) and then track back RIGHT PAST HIM and out the right way. Found a tree to hide behind and teleported away to IF, thinking that I wasn't going to be able to quest in that area for awhile, and perhaps since it's 9am, it's time to stop and go to bed.
But I just had to share. And the adrenaline hasn't worn out anyway.

That's Beastial Wrath and The Beast Within. 31 and 41 point Beast Mastery talents. They cause the pet and hunter to do more damage while being immune to roots or fears.
edit: I guess something similar happened to me yesterday. A hunter in Dragonstalker tried to kill my 60 warrior on the zeppelin to Grom'gol. Of course he waited until we loaded into STV to pop out of shadowmeld and try to burn me down while I was lagging along at about 1fps. I intercepted him and followed him belowdecks of the zep and proceded to kill him, all the while still running at choppy framerate due to loading. I tossed him a good-natured /lol before he released to the graveyard.

Haha, actually just earlier that night I got ambushed in Marshal's Refuge (in Ungoro Crater) by a Rogue while I was trying to sort my inventory. He attacked me just as I started walking off towards the flight master and got frostbitten, so I didn't even NOTICE he was coming after me until I saw I had about 16 hit points left.
At that point I panicked but managed to hop onto the gryphon literally right as he got within striking range of me.
A very lucky night for me indeed.

There are a lot of Diablo spells, abilities, and items in WoW. In fact, if you ever played Warcraft 3, you'd have noticed that War3 is where they started using Diablo-esque content (Scrolls of Town Portal anyone?).
I mean, War3 was essentially a merging of Warcraft 2 and Diablo, and WoW is a MMO version of Diablo set in the Warcraft world (of course I'm oversimplifying).
The warrior class in WoW is basically the Barbarian in WoW (Whirlwind, Battle Shout)... and then well, there's Paladins which are very similar in both games (auras and stuff), Mages and Sorcerers/Sorceresses share the same thing down to the Fire/Ice trees, except with Lightning replaced with Arcane...
You know, now that I think about it, it would be pretty awesome if Mages had a lightning tree. But then again, Arcane Explosion = Nova! But chain lightning would be awesome... or thunderstorm!
And to name some WoW item names directly imported from Diablo I/II:

Yeah, she's one of the "Chatty Trolls" that hang around all the capitol cities. I don't think the Santa Suits are available to players so I did the best I could.

Hey when grinding up a priest do you put your points in Shadow Focus or Blackout? And why?

The only points I put into shadow while levelling were Spirit Tap. Blackout sounds useful though. I mean, while levelling a caster, any time the enemy isn't hitting you means you get your spells out faster.
I can only see Shadow Focus being useful in PvP (which I put points into on my shadow priest on the beta)
