RAID with IDE?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I'm wondering if anyone has ever tried building a RAID array with a SATA drive and an IDE drive? I know it's possible with 2 identical drives of either type, but what about 1 of each? I'm wondering because Seagate is sending a replacement for my defective SATA drive and since CompUSA was sold out of the SATA drives when I bought a 320 gigabyte drive on sale I will have 2 of equal size but not the same type. I'm thinking of getting a Raptor drive for my OS and putting the others in exterior casings, but I want to know my other options since money is tight. Decisions, decisions, decisions, in other words.

with the way raid controller software works, I'm thinking thats a no dice. Not sure though. You might have to get like a sata to ide converter http://cgi.ebay.com/CFI-MP-SA3J-SAT...5QQcmdZViewItem to setup an ide raid array or like for a good pci controller card that performs that function.
