PSU REQUIREMENTS FOR 8 series?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have a 430 watt psu and was wondering what is the minimum requirements of the 8 series video card.

That would work fine, but if I were you, I'd get a more powerful one just so you can get the most out of the card. You can now find 650 watt psus for under 100 bucks on newegg.

You are a bit on the edge wattage vise.

A 8800GTS, needs minimum 400W. But the biggest problem for you, is that your ps, only can munster 18A on the single +12V rail your psu have.

You need at least 26A .

But as gam3r says. A 500W or more with lots of amperage is a more future proof psu.

Here are examples of good psus that should work very well, even with a 8800GTX.

But you will need this 20 to 24 pin converter cable for your mobo.

One other thing that is nice with the Hiper psu. Is that it is "modular". I.e you just hook up the cables to the psu, you acually are using for the moment.
Reduces cable clutter.

Any news for the requirements of the low end 8 series? The hiper psu looks pretty neat. I just need to get the cash for the new things.

No, no news on the psu requirements. But I think, they will still be pretty high.
So as said. With the future in mind. It could be a good idea to invest in a powerful ps anyways.

Yeah, the Hiper is nice. It also have another nice feature. The fans runs for a short while after you shut down the pc. This, to get hot air out of the system.

the prices for the lower end 8 series look pretty affordable compared to the 7900gs. So im just going to wait till they come out.

Yeah, That is a much better move. Especially the 8600Ultra seems interesting.
Then, just get Vista and you are ready for the DX10 games.

The OEM Vista Home is'nt that exspensive.

But it could be wise to to wait to get Vista until later this year. There are'nt too much drivers that's good for Vista for the moment.

SP1 for Vista is said to be out this autumn.

Hmm, according to VR Zone now. The 8600 cards will be out 17th of april.

Also read elsewhere, that there might be 8600 card in AGP flavour.
Nvidia, seems after all, interested in keeping the AGP alive.
The 8600GTS may interest you. As you where interested in 7900 GS.
