I am having a problem with my graphics card. I get a error that says VPU Recover has reset your graphics accelerator as it was no longer responding to graphics driver commands. I have no idea what to do. My drivers are up to date and I have ATI catalyst 7.1. The graphics card is PCI Express. I get this error when playing armadillo run.

Did you try using different drivers. Latests drivers seem to cause problems sometimes. Try downgrading you drivers.

When I didn't have the latest drivers, I would get a checkerboard pattern on my screen when i played BF2142. ATI told me to upgrade drivers. Now I have this problem.

I get a similar error with an AGP card from ATI. Only I'm getting mine when I play Descent 3. I'm thinking maybe we need to uninstall Catalyst and re-install it to see if that fixes the problem? Other suggestions, anyone? Can we try using an older version of Catalyst that's immune to crashing? I have an Athlon 3800 X2 with the multiplier in the BIOS set for 211. Anyone have any other ideas? I'm using Windows XP Pro.

I'd appreciate a version of Catalyst that works with Vista RC1 x64 without causing the monitor to turn itself off after the Windows splash screen too! The drivers I've found so far do that. Also the standard driver included with RC1 causes the games to be too dark and won't let the brightness settings in the games themselves DO anything! Another reason not to get Vista so far...

Kandarp 99?

You could try Catalyst 6.12 It's a good and reliable driver.

But uninstall the 7.2 first.

And maybe download and run Driver Cleaner professional. And use the "multiple filter" setting. Then add all ATI stuff, before you clean.

pdnielsen.

Try any of these:

I tried both things. Each time, my computer restarted during company of heroes. I put all settings of the game on low but it still restarted. I meet the minimum requirements.

Is it just this game that is giving you problems?

If it is? Then you maybe need to patch it.

i remember when my graphics were like a checkerboard. It was because of my video settings in game. My game counter strike was set to direct 3D so i changed it to open GL and everything was smooth. Maybe that could be it? I'm not familiar with battle field video settings.

I have a agp x800gto , in my other computer and I still can't seem to fix my fps, reinstalled windows drivers ,and ati drivers. in source i would get 15-20 fps.. with my x800 still no reason why lol..-__'

Low fps, is often too high resoloution and Anti Alising + Anisotrophic filtering settings.
But running games in opengl, does put less strain on the videocard.
Also, a fragmented hd, can have some impact on the fps.

It seems that ATI has been having trouble getting the Catalyst software to work properly with all its video cards on Vista based systems. I ran a Google search for the specific build Vista RC 1 build 5600 for ATI drivers and the sites it found were almost all for forums dealing with similar problems. However, I did manage to get the games to run more visibly and so the monitor stays on by installing just the updated drivers and not Catalyst 7.2. Apparently it was the Catalyst software and not the driver itself that has a problem on my system when running Vista.

How do i change setting to opengl and the card screws up in every game i have tried. It also sometimes gives me a VPU error saying something dealing with 3d accelerator not responding.
