What is the difference between Gddr2 and Gddr3. Also, i was thinking about getting this card from newegg. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16814125041
Is this good or is there something better for the price. I have an athlon 64 3500+ 1 gig ddr2 ram.

The difference between GDDR2 and GDDR3 is the speed....mainly.

That is a good card, if you're not playing more than moderate demanding games on low settings.

But this is still cheap cards. And a lot better:

You see.

Even if the card you looked at, is said to be 512mb of memory. It's 256 onboard ( the other 256mb, it borrows from your RAM when needed). And the card, just got 64 bit memory interface. And together with measly 4 pixel pipelines. It's next to worthless for more demanding graphical tasks like gaming for ex. This is more or less a "workstation card".

Thanks for helping...which of the two would u recommend for a moderate to heavy gamer? can you recommend other cards also if possible? thanks a lot

There are some other cards. But it also depends if you are going to get Windows Vista in the near future?

If you are? Then I would say, Get the X1600Pro I listed before. It willl keep you going until you get a Direct X10 videocard and Windows Vista. A couple of the upcoming dx10 games will be out this autumn.

And those games requires a DX10 videocard and Vista.

If you dont care for Vista this year or so? Then get this card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16814145142, providing your psu is 400W minimum and 22 A on the + 12V rail? (look at the label on the psu) Othervice you also will have to get a new psu like this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16817128004

Could be a good investment anyway, if you have a 400W - 450W psu?
The dx10 vidocards, needs a lot of Wattage and Amperes.

And a good and powerful psu, can last for years and thru several rigs.

The 7900GS, can manage any game of today at high settings.

You're welcome.

Thanks. I dont think i will get vista this year but how much do u think a decent DX10 graphics card will cost? Do you know any that are 110 or less in price but are better than the ones u listed before(not the recent one that is 149)? How is this one?

The only "decently priced" dx 10 card wich is out for the moment is 8800GTS 320mb. I saw a Gigabyte for 294 USD at newegg. That's the cheapest for the moment. But the 8800GTS 320mb, is one of the 3 top cards. The other 2 top, dx10 cards are 8800GTS 640mb and 8800GTX. But those are terrible exspensive.

There will be some more midrange oriented Geforce DX10 cards out in mid april about. The 8600 series.

They are said to cost about 130 to 190 USD.

And around that time, ATI (Radeon) also (eventually) will be releasing their first dX10 card series.
But for the Radeon cards. This is still just romours.

How will this card be for gaming?

I can't see what you mean? I get a site with no videocards. Please try again, or give me the cards name (Ie. brand and model).

Posted by: goranpaa

You can actually list the DX 9.0 videocards that's decent to good like this:

Decent:

Geforce: 7600GS, 7600GT.

Radeon: X1600Pro, X1600XT and X1800GTO.

Good cards.

Geforce: 7900GS, 7950GT.

Radeon: X1950Pro, X1950XT

Good Geforce brands: EVGA, BFG, Chaintech, Gigabyte, Leadtek and XFX.

Good Radeon brands: Gecube, HIS and Powercolor.

But the the latter ( the good videocards), needs as said. A powerful psu with lots of amperes on the +12V rail(s). The more Ampere, the better. And at least 500W.

Srry for the messed up link. Here it is. I was thinkng about getting this one. Is it good?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16814130073
Also, what are the requirements for my psu if i get this card.

Posted by: goranpaa

Yeah, that's a nice midrange card. Will play the tuffer games on a mix of high to mid settings. And 1280 X 1024 monitor resoloution or so. And is kind on the psu demands.

EVGA is a good brand, as I said before.

That's a good choise without having to spend a lot of money.

I think you will see a pretty drastic improvement in image quality too, compaired to your old videocard.
