i was wondering whats better windows or linux.... i want to try it out but i dont know all my windows software will work on it.. any help will be great .... Thanks

Windows software will not run on Linux without an emulator. And that can be a crapshoot depending on the program. On the bright side, there are great alternatives to windows software for nearly everything on Linux. And it has way better security than Windows XP and probably even Windows Vista. The only thing I can think of that Linux doesn't do that windows can is DirectX based games. Some run in emulation, but not many.

The best thing you can do is try a Linux live CD. Basically it allows you to try linux without installing it. It runs off the CD. Ubuntu is probably the best one out there for new users. Kubuntu is an alternative ubuntu with kde as a desktop instead of gnome. Both are good but I personally prefer kde.

if youre anywhere near a normal user, you wont be able to ditch windows. a dual boot is quite doable though.
